We all remember the days of surviving on instant noodles in college, a nostalgic memory for many. However, college hunger today is a serious issue affecting more students than ever before. Did you know that from 1980 to 2019-20, the total cost of attending a four-year college full-time increased by a staggering 180% on an inflation-adjusted basis according to the National Center for Education Statistics? This rise in costs has contributed to a concerning increase in food and housing insecurity among college students, particularly in California. A recent survey by the California Student Aid Commission revealed alarming statistics: - More than two-thirds of students surveyed identified as food insecure. - Over half reported being housing insecure. - Students with low incomes, students of color, and adult learners showed higher rates of basic needs insecurity.
