🌎 Today is World Food Day, which is a moment when communities around the globe pause to raise awareness about hunger and commit to prioritizing food and nutrition for all people. Last year, a group of passionate SunOpta employees developed a Food Loss and Waste Policy to ensure that any excess food that is safe for consumption is donated to people instead of being wasted. As a result of this effort, we were able to donate more than 2.3 million pounds of food - the equivalent of 1.9 Million meals - through the Feeding America network to feed hungry families in our communities. And every time we throw away that unopened bag of lettuce, mostly full milk container, or slightly brown bananas, we're producing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change and food insecurity.
