🍎 Nourishing our communities is at the heart of what food banks do day-in and day-out. The charitable food system began to address food insecurity and alleviate food waste and has now evolved into a network of food banks and pantries providing access to nutritious foods, robust nutrition education and additional safety-net resources. As we evolve with how we show up for our communities, the language we use is evolving too. healthy food is so essential
We are so grateful for the continued support of Hunger Task Force in supplying over a third of the fresh food offered in our Milwaukee food pantry. Using the money we save because of their generous donations, we're able to supply our patients with a greater variety of nutritious foods. Their continued commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our patients is not only admirable, but essential to the success of our mission. Thank you to WISN-TV for this wonderful feature! https://ow.ly/m0QQ50QHevT

🌎 Today is World Food Day, which is a moment when communities around the globe pause to raise awareness about hunger and commit to prioritizing food and nutrition for all people. Last year, a group of passionate SunOpta employees developed a Food Loss and Waste Policy to ensure that any excess food that is safe for consumption is donated to people instead of being wasted. As a result of this effort, we were able to donate more than 2.3 million pounds of food - the equivalent of 1.9 Million meals - through the Feeding America network to feed hungry families in our communities. At SunOpta—we're working hard to do our part to cultivate an equitable, resilient and vibrant food system that we can all be proud of. #WorldFoodDay #ZeroHunger #FoodSecurity #SustainableFood #EndHunger #FoodForAll #FightHunger #NutritionMatters #FoodSustainability #HealthyEating #FoodForChange #GlobalHunger #FoodEquality

It's true, most food date labels don't indicate food safety but quality and freshness. And every time we throw away that unopened bag of lettuce, mostly full milk container, or slightly brown bananas, we're producing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change and food insecurity. Here are a few things we can all do: 1. Advocate for better food date label policies and laws that standardize labels and allow food past its quality-date to be donated. 2. Work on reducing your own food waste at home. See a "Best if used by" date label? While the product might not taste as fresh, it's often perfectly safe to eat. 3. Donate to your local food bank! Find out which food products are in high demand and check their donation safety requirements. Visit our website to see ways you can donate to us.
