The problem with this statement is that non-creative people who think of themselves as creative (what some might call "corporate creatives" or perhaps more critically, "faux creatives") are incapable of grasping what this sentence means. They hear 'do nothing' and think 'chilling'.
Just creative people can understand it.
Sometimes the greatest ideas come from a simple conversation with a friend.
This is by far the most underrated "tactic" for creativity. Letting the mind wander without attaching to the outcome does wonders 🧘♀️ Too bad most people feel bad for doing nothing (hah, "nothing")
At one point in time boredom was one of the key drivers of creativity, nowadays, with the bombardment of media at us from every conceivable angle of our lives… 📐 it can be genuinely hard to get bored - but we need to distance ourselves from all the distractions in order to find that creative space again.
Our minds never shut off, so even though it may appear that we’re sitting around doing nothing… we’re actually doing a lot of thinking and rethinking.

1moIt's not doing nothing, it's contemplating a lot of stuff in our heads. It just looks like we're doing nothing, if you're looking from the outside. That's why it's called imagination, you get to see the things we imagine in our minds after we're done with the actual work afterwards.
