As representatives of the global youth community, we address you with a sense of urgency and purpose in these critical times. With humanity facing unprecedented challenges, we urge you to prioritize specific actions and commitments to safeguard both people and planet. 1: Inclusive Decision-Making: Ensure meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes at all levels, including government, international organizations, and civil society. Provide platforms for youth voices to be heard and valued in shaping policies and initiatives. 2: Climate Action: Take bold and immediate steps to address the climate crisis, including commitments to ambitious emissions reduction targets, investment in renewable energy, and adaptation measures to protect vulnerable communities. 3: Peace and Humanitarian Support: Prioritize efforts to resolve conflicts peacefully, provide humanitarian aid to those in need, and uphold human rights for all. Invest in education and mental health support to address the impacts of conflict and crisis on youth. 4: Sustainable Development: Commit to sustainable development goals that prioritize social equity, economic prosperity, and environmental protection. Support initiatives that empower youth as agents of change in building resilient and inclusive societies. 5: Education and Employment Opportunities: Ensure access to quality education and skills training for all youth, regardless of background or location. Promote job creation and entrepreneurship to address youth unemployment and foster economic growth. Empowering youth through meaningful engagement is not just a choice; it's a necessity for building a better future. #YOUTHLEAD, #WORLDLEADERS

As I watch #climateweeknyc2023 come to a close today, it's great to see familiar names and fancy powerpoint presentations on #decarbonization #renewables #energy #environmentaljustice #resilience #AI4equity but.....the program's focus on we can and we will promise for action did not include one important topic: population growth and trends. These kids on the soccer field remind us that every 30 seconds, a Latin American turns 18 and becomes eligle to vote in the USA. That’s 75,000 potential new voters each month according to The World’s Analysis of Census Bureau data. This data shows that 4.1 million Latin Americans will turn 18 between 2020 and 2024. #climateweek2023 #every30seconds #rfmproductions #votolatino #populationgrowth #latinyouth #rfmproductions #actonclimate #brasileirosnoseua #youthempowerment #education

We want more and better informed policies? Let’s raise the density of reliable and relevant information available first. Sameer Padania’s reflection on local media is relevant to the analysis of density in evidence informed policymaking: https://lnkd.in/eAyAZe2r
My new piece (pre-#IJF24) - about the need for #cities to tackle information inequality, in particular through support for local media - for the German Marshall Fund of the United States: "Some city areas enjoy a glut of media and connectivity, whereas other areas suffer from news and information deserts, leaving large swathes of municipal populations unrepresented. #InformationInequality does not just relate to the ability to access or be covered by #localmedia. It diminishes political, economic, and cultural diversity. It entrenches socioeconomic disparities. It creates the conditions for some to foment or exacerbate divisions within and among communities. And it undermines the principles of equal representation and participation. [...] Just as cities have mobilized efforts to tackle pressing global challenges such as climate change and migration, they must now confront the looming threat of information inequality. The good news is that, by doing so, city authorities, policymakers, and civic leaders can support the vital role played by local #journalism in fostering informed, engaged, and inclusive communities." https://lnkd.in/eG_zeruf Cc: Resilient Cities Network, C40 Cities, Metropolis, World Association of the Major Metropolises, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), ICLEI, ASEAN Future Cities Conference, Eurocities, The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions & Cities, Global Parliament of Mayors, International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE), Centre for Thriving Places, Local Trust, UK Community Foundations, European Community Foundation Initiative, The Global Fund for Community Foundations, London Funders, Mayor of London, Apolitical Foundation...

In a recent Melbourne Institute-Roy Morgan Taking the Pulse of the Nation Survey, our researchers Professor A. Abigail Payne and Dr Ferdi Botha discovered that Australian voters' priorities have notably shifted compared to two years ago: 🏥 Health services remain the top issue 💰 Economic stability and housing affordability have risen in importance rankings 😐 The priority of an open and honest government has declined 🌎 Concerns over climate change and supporting the elderly have declined significantly In contrast, interest in reducing migration from other countries spiked. These changes highlight evolving public sentiment on major policy areas like government transparency, the environment, and immigration levels. It's the theme of the moment, making our voices heard and our opinions matter. 📣 Whilst in this zone, we felt it was important to take part in the first UK Net Zero Business Census, access it here, https://lnkd.in/efiDJsnh This is the largest national research initiative of its kind, delivered by the UK Business Climate Hub in partnership with Planet Mark and a coalition of business associations, media outlets and large corporates. This initiative aims to establish a definitive benchmark for the private sector's contribution to the UK's national 2050 net zero target through a strong collaborative effort to gather the largest ever dataset reflecting UK organisations progress on net zero. Take part in the Census and help shape invaluable insights for policymakers, investors, and business leaders, guiding the nation's journey towards a sustainable future. (It's a 5 minute job for this week, with the census closing on 30th June). Let's work together to drive positive change and pave the way for a more sustainable future. #NetZeroCensus #Sustainability #SMEs Auditel

Putting Bill 372 into context. Recently, this last weekend to a group of Indigenous STEM scholars, professionals and ally’s, I gave a presentation on creating impact that is values driven. The focus was on deepening our efforts as they relate to socio-economic impact. Also going deeper than human development indexes and Canada’s well being Index and aligning them with reconciliation. I gave examples from the Indigenous Resource Network and all the people engaged in resource industry. In particular examples of ownership, deep meaningful engagement and communities in Oil & Gas using that financial and human resource capacity to move out of abject poverty. In short, Indigenous people are advancing self-determination and reconciliation with their industry partners on equitable terms. Now, my understanding of Bill-372 “an act respecting fossil fuel advertising” would make this and all the positive comments made public by Indigenous workers, business and communities in the O&G industry illegal? Less paternalism not more please. Indigenous leadership is helping to shape industry engagement, practices and sustainability across all industries including O&G - an industry that is in transition but isn’t disappearing in our lifetime. We need solutions to reconciliation now. All forms. We need to share more of this best practice. Not less. Bill-372 is a problem, not a solution. There are better ways to hold industry accountable. Indigenous expectations on equitable opportunities and influencing or being an actual regulator/authority including governance particpation are some. #saynotobill372anditsderivatives
