Today as I was using my laptop, a thought just appeared out of nowhere.   This thought struck me as my laptop's HDD was taking too long to load an application, which annoyed me. But why do HDD and SSD , which are still in use today, differ so much from one another for the same functionality? They perform the same function of storing data A HDD stores the data physically, by magnetization of a plate, to dumb it down significantly, while an SSD stores the data in chips. The end result is superb speed for the SSD and superb reliability for the HDD Look at the first image, it's an HDD, and you can see it's a mechanical device. Looking at the second image, it is clear that an SSD is nothing more than a collection of chips.
