Senior Network Development Engineer @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Network Engineering | Technical Instructor
Ever considered Network Engineers as the Sherlock Holmes of the digital world? Just like detectives, network engineers meticulously dissect information, interrogate data, and decipher complex codes. They are tirelessly working behind the scenes, unraveling the mysteries of the virtual world, chasing trails left behind by elusive culprits. For detectives, it's a shadowy figure in the physical world. For Network Engineers, it's a rogue packet in a sea of data. Detectives use their analytical skills to uncover clues, piece together a puzzle, and unmask the culprits. Network Engineers, too, wield their technical expertise to investigate network problems, decode information, and restore harmony. A detective's case might involve a missing person, a Network Engineer's case might involve a missing packet. Each puzzle requires the same tenacity, the same rigorous approach to problem-solving, and the same satisfaction when the mystery is solved. Like detectives, Network Engineers make sense of the complex and often chaotic. They bring order, stability, and security to our digital lives. They are the ones keeping our digital world turning. So, next time you're troubleshooting a network issue, think of yourself as a digital detective, solving mysteries in a world unseen. Because that's exactly what you are. Let's embrace this perspective and celebrate our inner detective. Share a time when you felt like a digital detective, solving a network mystery. Your story might inspire others in our field. #networkengineering #networkengineer #computernetworks

Well, it's the weekend again..time for another non work related post..๐ I am asked by my fellow LinkedIn members, 'How does morse code actually work'? Even in the day of silicon valley, satellites, mobile phones, cellular & social media, there's still a place for well-worn morse code communications today. As the forerunner to email, texts and other near-instant messaging mediums, I think morse code deserves a tip of the hat. Just ask the U.S. Navy. It's one of the languages cryptologic technicians learn while training at the Center for critical communications & disaster, at Corry Station in Pensacola, Florida. If, & to be honest, in my opinion, 'when' all the satellites go down, no cellular, no Wi-Fi, no communications, we will revert back to basic analogue communications, this is where morse code stands tall, as a last resort, but still a very capable emergency communications system. The messages are sent via analogue, ssb band radio waves between the sender and receiver, using a system that was first developed by Samuel Morse, in 1830, some 193 years ago! (WOW) ๐, there is an International morse language, made up of dits & dashes, & no matter what country you live in, or language you speak, its the same for everyone, which is handy.. One of the first people to use the new technology was Abraham Lincoln who used morse to get news from the battlefields during the Civil War. Morse code would also go on to play a pivotal role in both WW1 & WW2, & in Vietnam & the middle east. Morse code is still used to communicate at sea, with the fevered tapping of morse keys a common sound on coast guard boats, cargo ships around the world, when 'regular' comms isn't available. Samuel Morseโs once pioneering invention was superseded first by the invention of the telephone, then the fax machine, and finally by the Internet and satellite navigations, having said that, the emergency services in military world, continue to use morse to send crypto messages, all over the globe. Dont get me started on 'Number Stations', coded messages sent on the shortwave bands, thought to cease after the cold war, number stations are well and truly still used today, I still make new recordings of these. So to finish, here is a short morse code video, using an early Christmas present from Santa, my new Begali morse key.. Today there is a morse code competition on the radio bands, very busy! The stations you are hearing, are from Russia, Germany, France, Iceland, you can also see my new morse key working as it should ๐ Also you will see sitting on the table, a 1960's 'Spy' morse code radio, built & hidden inside an Altoids peppermint tin, this type of equipment was commonly used during the Cold War..to spy on the West, or the East, depending on your 'weapon of choice' ๐ Enjoy your weekends, find a hobby, look after your mental health, have a great Christmas & a prosperous 2024.๐๐๐ #iot #automation #water #parkingsolutions #5G #iotsolutions #telematics #automotive

How algorithms work under the hood is almost always a secret (unless you live in open source). To preserve those secrets, APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) are designed to expose the outputs of these algorithms. APIs enable different software systems to communicate and interact with each other. More importantly, it promotes modular software design by encapsulating complex functionalities into well-defined interfaces. I've heard this been said many times: "it is ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ญ๐บ an API". If you have too, just walk away. I've had a lot of conversations with customers and partners about what subnetworks are in the utility network, and why/how to best use them. In response to this, we developed a whole learning series that demonstrates how and why to use the subnetworks in the utility network (https://lnkd.in/gWAFM_C5). The only problem with this content is that while it's a good starting point, it's started a lot of deeper, more technical conversations with customers and partners about how things actually work. In response to this, I've started writing several articles that provide a deep dive into how and why subnetworks behave the way that they do. Is this something you'd be interested in reading? Are there specific things you want to know more about? Let me know below!
