50 years ago this day in 1972, Atari’s Pong hit the market! It was an instant hit. The simple graphics, easy-to-understand rules, and challenge appealed to everyone. Soon, Atari became a household name. But behind the success of Pong was not just Nolan Bushnell's visionary leadership. It was his early focus on talent. Bushnell handpicked ingenious engineers and developers, with Al Alcorn standing out as a prime example. Alcorn's hiring and a challenge to create a simple game birthed Pong, a monumental success that catapulted Atari into the gaming spotlight. The story weaves through the corridors of Atari, where even luminaries like Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak honed their skills. Their brief stint at the company not only contributed to its legacy but also shaped their future endeavors, illustrating the transformative impact of exposure to the right talent and environment.
