Together with impact investor DOEN Participaties, we are investing in Veridis to bring the new quality measurement standard (MADSCAN) to the market. With the secured funding, Veridis will build and run customer pilots with its innovative MADSCAN technology in 2024 and 2025. MADSCAN is a new technology for thermal analysis, i.e. it measures the different ways in which different types of plastic melt and recrystallize. "The innovative technology of Veridis can guarantee stable, higher-quality recyclate that can be recycled more often and used in high-quality. Veridis therefore makes an important contribution towards a circular chain and an alternative to the use of fossil raw materials.", says Ward Wolters from DOEN Participaties. Packaging and Recycling Forum at the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum, Arese (MI) has just closed its doors📌 During the event, Pavel Andrushchuk, Division Manager - Recycling at Piovan, delivered a speech titled “𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬: 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐕𝐎𝐂 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.” The presentation covered the need for enhanced production processes and technologies to ensure high-quality post-consumer plastics and prevent contamination. 🍶 ♻ Can you imagine new processes to #recycle plastics such as PET trays and multilayer #packaging? Together with experts from 12 other European partners, we have achieved it in the Enzycle project, coordinated by ITENE and funded by BBI JU and #Horizon2020 and whose last General Meeting took place this 📅 28th of May in our facilities. In the final event, the partners have explained that, by developing innovative solutions that use microbial enzymes to valorise and upgrade these fractions, transforming them into valuable resources, we have faced the important challenge of non-recyclable #plastic fractions.  ⚗ First, enzymes with the potential to break down the plastics into their original components (monomers) were obtained, after which a further processing step was developed to recover and purify the necessary monomers before transforming them into new plastics. ➡ Finally, they were transformed into new materials, such as PET and polyurethane foam, products that can be used in various sectors, such as #packaging, #transport, construction and #textiles.  👉 Want to know more? We’ve developed a ‘better cellophane’! 🌍📦 Packaging World interviewed Vinay Kumar on VTT’s work on cellulose-based film and coating materials produced using an environmentally friendly process. 🌿 "Cellulose is interesting as a material because once you extract it as cellulose fiber, there are different ways to process it further into products. We're converting cellulosic materials into films and coatings for packaging applications." 🌿 "The biggest advantage that I personally find important is the biodegradability or compostability of these materials." 🌿 "Now it’s getting to the stage where companies are very excited because we’ve been able to demonstrate the process to show that this can be done roll to roll."
