For those who love consolidation, there’s plenty to celebrate once this cycle gains momentum. Ad tech vendors are poised to join the consolidation spree, given their struggle with slim profit margins. It’s only when they shift towards operating two-sided marketplaces that profitability truly becomes attainable.

Has anyone ever sized the market opportunity the measurement/verification/attribution/optimization companies are fighting for a share of? Are long-term projections tethered to assumptions using math like we expect X share of a market sized Y, yielding revenue Z, margins A = valuation B? I suspect the pie is finite and not going to grow enormously, so in the end there is only room for a handful of players. And someone is going to have to lose significant share for even that to work. Especially as long as the sell side is paying most of the freight (directly and indirectly).

As we gear up for a dynamic 2024, the M&A landscape looks set to rebound in the advertising industry. The biggest shift in the Advertising space in 2024 is likely to come with the disruption driven by the alternatives to cookie-driven approaches on the back of Third Party Cookies being phased out by Google in 2024 (Apple phased them out in 2017). Contextual Advertising is one of the key areas of growth and innovation in 2024. Currently, most of digital advertising is driven by leveraging user data based on cookies but 2024 will see a massive shift by brands across industries to Cookie-less Contextual Advertising solutions.
