F**k the Executive MBA, watch Miller’s Crossing instead… Let’s keep this “Business Lessons from Mob Movies” summer class rolling. This week we’re breaking down the early Cohen Brother’s masterpiece Miller’s Crossing. → Corporate Ethics 101 “Nobody knows anybody. Not that well.” “You double-cross once – where’s it all end? An interesting ethical question.” → Corporate Finance 101 “If you want me to keep my mouth shut, it's gonna cost you some dough. I figure a thousand bucks is reasonable, so I want two.” → Negotiations 101 “It's gettin' so a businessman can't expect no return from a fixed fight. Now, if you can't trust a fix, what can you trust? For a good return, you gotta go bettin' on chance - and then you're back with anarchy, right back in the jungle.” → Leadership 101 “I'm talkin' about friendship. I'm talkin' about character. I'm talkin' about - hell. Leo, I ain't embarrassed to use the word - I'm talkin' about ethics.” → Corporate Strategy 101 “Maybe that's why I like you, Tom. I've never met anyone who made being a son of a bitch such a point of pride.” “Tell Leo he's not God on the throne, he's just a cheap political boss with more hair tonic than brains.” → Decision Analysis 101 “I’d worry a lot less if I thought you were worrying enough.” -- Which mob movie do you want to learn from next?
Seth can we do Goodfellas next week?
Interesting
Seems to be a reflection of the industry’s nascency. Most companies in this space don’t have the structure, governance or processes of non endemic industries. There’s an underlying resistance to them actually.
We can learn a ton through experience Seth Yakatan
Easily my favorite hook of the week.
Unconventional wisdom meets business savvy in 'Miller’s Crossing'—lessons beyond the MBA. Seth Yakatan
I don't think I've ever caught this one, going on the list for this weekend!!! While it's not really a mob movie, Heat is a great one. Got more than a few lessons learned on trust and lies and what happens when you try to fake it till you make it.
You forgot the greatest lesson of all: nothing more foolish than a man chasin his hat
Using classic films like Miller's Crossing to explore relevant business themes is both creative and engaging.

3wSeth Yakatan this is one of the few Coen brothers movies that I haven’t seen, but I’ve always heard this is a great one. I want to see Godfather 2 and The Sopranos, don’t care if not a movie, would kick ass
