They made a median annual salary of $132,620, with the top 10% earning more than $208,000 and the bottom 10% earning below $57,150. There’s limited real-time data about the health of the UK market for public relations. We’re launching a new project next week that aims to improve the quality of data about the health of the market for corporate communications and public relations. Employment data is a valuable economic indicator. However, there’s no single source for the market for talent in UK public relations and corporate communications. We've experimented with using LinkedIn but it's impossible to get granular data and it doesn't triangulate well to other sources. We're not entirely sure why. The nature of the market itself complicates the situation. It’s highly fragmented. Attitudes to professionalism are mixed. It’s also highly dynamic. Anecdotally, we know that as many as a third of practitioners change jobs yearly and a significant freelance component exists. Our purpose is simple. We want to build a dataset that helps understand the corporate communication and public relations market. We want to answer questions about the relationship between public relations and the economy, barriers and opportunities for progression, and salary levels. There’s also a media opportunity to create an aggregator or jobs board for the industry for employers and anyone looking for a new job. The project aims to compile a monthly Jobs in PR newsletter of as many jobs as possible. In time, the dataset will tell a story of the UK's employment market for corporate relations and public relations jobs. We’ve built a minimum viable product, starting with large agencies because that’s easiest, but we plan to develop the scope over the year. VALUE VS COST How many PR people have heard from clients "we want the gold package at the bronze budget?". Or have been told "we really like the agency but XXX has said they can do it for less"? It is the same in recruitment. ALL THE TIME. But here is the thing. In both cases I fundamentally believe, 99% of the time you get what you pay for. For the client going with the PR agency that is low balling. Good luck to them. Either it won't be profitable for the agency, they will run the team into the ground trying to deliver, or they simply won't deliver for the client as the work ultimately needed far more time and money spent on it! For recruitment, if you want to use an agency that offers super low rates, then go for it. The level of service, attention to detail, added value and general counsel will be non existent. It actually immediately sets alarm bells ringing for me anyone that asks for super low rates. It demonstrates instantly the value they put on their hiring. Guess what that will come through to candidates too. Yes budgets are tight at the moment but spending slightly more to get better value, that ultimately can add value, is surely always a better option than cheapest? Of course it all depends on where you place most value. This might not surprise you, but if you don't place value in hiring and retaining top talent then things probably won't end so well. Of course the irony being it will ultimately cost far more in the long run as well. Having to replace hires that haven't worked out, losing people as you can't retain them or just having roles vacant and teams under resourced for prolonger periods all cost time as well as damage staff wellbeing. HR Stupidity 👇 Recently I received 2 direct messages from well-reputed company's HRs on LinkedIn saying "We are hiring a Digital Marketing Expert and we think you will be best fit for this position" Please fill out the form and share your resume. I did. And It's been a month now they even don't revert back to me with a reply. Although I'm working on a very good position in a good company. HR people should stop this shit.
