September marks my first full year as CEO of Whole Foods Market, and what an incredible 12 months it’s been. One of the best parts, without a doubt, has been getting to interact with Team Members — whether it’s in the aisles of our stores, at our facilities, at a Team Member Connection meeting or in a banana field in Costa Rica. I never cease to be amazed by the people I meet, and it’s a privilege to hear your perspectives. I hope you see your feedback reflected in the actions we’ve taken this year. It is gratifying to look back at what we’ve accomplished together so far. We co-created Growing with Purpose – our 10-year company vision and strategy. We made unprecedented investments in our Team Member experience, rolling out a much more robust 401K match, a deeper Team Member Discount in Prepared Foods and more career advancement opportunities. We’ve activated several new ways for all Team Members to be engaged in our business – like the quarterly All-Hands Huddle and our E-Team Roadshow. We’ve also taken meaningful steps to simplify the way we work and to refocus on stores. On a personal level, this year has taught me a great deal about myself and servant leadership. I’ve felt the impactful change of supporting day-to-day operations to leading our entire organization. I’m a natural problem solver, but I’ve learned that empowering our teams to create solutions has resulted in tremendous outcomes for the company. I’ve learned that when we’re faced with difficult decisions, looking to our Core Values and our long-term goals can help us arrive at the best outcome. I look forward to another year full of engaging conversations, store visits, lots of learning and, of course, continuing to fulfill our Purpose to Nourish People and the Planet. Often, over the course of my career, I have been given some really challenging roles that I was sure I would fail at. Typically, these were roles where others had failed before me. I’d often get frustrated because I felt like I was being set up for failure. But if I hadn’t been given those roles, I never would have had the chance to - Work on the milk’s favorite cookie campaign for the Oreo brand  - Launch the Pieces launch at The Hershey Company (that arguably began a change in candy aisle packaging) - Rethink marketing planning at Ahold - Evolve Guest Relations at Cracker Barrel These are some of the coolest projects, most amazing teams and proudest achievements I have had the chance to work on over the past 20+ years. At some point, I figured out that I actually like tough challenges ... especially finding ways to fix long standing problems that other people have written off. I also learned that what seem like impossible problems often just need someone to have a “there has to be a better way” attitude plus a little persistence. Which was how I ended up spending most of the last two years working with an amazing team at Cracker Barrel to address the longstanding challenge of making data more accessible for end-users. We started out with a tiny team and grew analytics into a full blown function focused on democratizing data access and getting the right data to the right people in order to make the right decisions. We made a ton of progress, overcoming the stumbling blocks that had hindered progress in the past. If I could give one piece of career advice to younger Jeff, it would be this: Embrace the challenges. This past month has been an incredible journey of learning, growth, exciting new experiences and exploring the world of potatoes and appetizers! Here are my key highlights so far 📍 📌Discovering the Business: From day one, I have been immersed in the rich culture, dynamic environment of McCain Foods and the uniqueness of our products. Understanding the intricacies of our operations has also been fascinating! Learning about our innovative practices in sustainability and our commitment to quality has been truly inspiring. By the way, Did you know that McCain is the world leading in frozen potato products? 🥔 👩🏾🏭Plant Visits: One of the exciting highlights of my first month was visiting our plants in Europe, 4 done and many more to go! Seeing the process from farm to fork has given me a profound appreciation for the dedication and craftsmanship that goes into every product. Meeting the teams on the ground and witnessing their passion for excellence has been a rewarding and humbling experience. 📈Team Building: I had the pleasure of meeting and now working with an incredibly talented group of individuals within our cross functional HR teams. Our TA team is diverse, driven, and brimming with potential! Together, we are focused on building a robust talent acquisition strategy that aligns with the vision and goals of McCain Foods and I couldn’t be more excited to shape a team that will bring in the best talent to continue driving McCain’s success. 🥳Fun and Engagement: The past month has not just been all work and no play!
