Thursday Thoughts with Jackie Tomes. Everyday primary care providers recommend what we in the industry call interventions to assist their patients. Have a headache? The intervention is 2 Tylenol and call me in the morning (lol). They typically make recommendations for these interventions based on the patients need. However, we have been told several times by primary care providers that they do not see the value in our assessment because they’re afraid that their patients cannot afford our recommended interventions, whether it be shower chairs, grab bars, ramps, etc. Jackie is sharing today about that exact situation and how it’s important that patient should be given all of the information in order to make what is considered to be an educated decision or as most of us in the industry referred to as patient choice. Primary care providers should be the traffic signal and not the gatekeeper because they think their patient cannot afford what is likely best for them. When it comes to MiE and the service we provide, nothing could be further from the truth.
