We are in the planning stages for the 14th National Innovative Communities Conference, and we can't wait to see what exciting initiatives are developed based on what those in attendance discuss and learn. Eleven years ago, the NICC inspired the founders of the city of Jurupa Valley to launch their Healthy City initiative, Healthy Jurupa Valley. What is Healthy Jurupa Valley? **** HJV is part of a global movement of healthy city initiatives that work to improve the health and quality of life of all residents. Healthy Jurupa Valley is a public/private partnership between the City of Jurupa Valley and the nonprofit agency Reach Out. The mission is to inspire residents to ignite change, bringing greater health, safety, and quality of life to everyone in the city. The initiatives we've undertaken in the past decade are far-reaching, and the impacts are broad. ✅ Through the efforts of this initiative, HJV has increased green space, community gardens, and awareness of substance abuse issues and vaccine availability. ✅ We've held leadership academies to empower community members to become leaders and share resources. ✅ We've created "Shop the Walk" events to drive connection between local business and the community, and hosted face-to-face meetings with elected officials to allow them to meet the community members they represent. Health represents so much more than physical well-being, and the HJV initiative has grown community connection, safety, and well-being in immeasurable ways. The 2024 Palliative Care in Queensland Priorities report has seven points of priority for PCQ. Priority 4 focuses on growing initiatives that educate and engage the community to build compassionate communities. Queensland must look to growing community support for people choosing to stay in their own homes or in another community setting throughout their palliative care journey and increasingly at the end of life. August is Civic Health Month, a nationwide celebration held to showcase the strengthening relationship between health care, healthy communities, and civic participation. Civic health refers to how communities come together to identify and address public issues, as defined by the National Conference on Citizenship. It is measured through social connections, community involvement, and political participation. The Wisconsin 2024 Civic Health Challenge encourages residents to actively contribute to their community's civic health through daily challenges centered on four themes: social connection, community connection, voting, and political engagement. https://lnkd.in/gSJ4KSrW

Through support from the Victoria State Government (Victorian Government) #TogetherMoreActive program, we have been working with the Koorie Heritage Trust, Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) and multiple universities to develop a program that tackles racism in Victorian sport.   We have developed an anonymous survey to help understand how #racism impacts community #sport and what can be done to help address it. Anyone over the age of 18 who is or has been involved in playing or the delivery of community sport may complete the survey! You may be an athlete, participant, parent of a child athlete, coach, volunteer, administrator, committee member or spectator. Whether you have witnessed an incident or been the victim of an incident of racism, your insights will assist sporting organisations to develop solutions to respond to racism within community sport.
