Sometimes it's easier for me to express myself via a terrible handcrafted illustration and this is a summary of my thoughts prompted by the first half of the first day of #subtech2024 #subtech You may be asking "What kind of data?" "What is it needed for?" and similar questions and my answer is "Yes." What is it? How is it done? Who is doing it? What makes it good? What don't we know about it? We need all of it. For everything.

  • A shooting star with a rainbow and "we need data" over the top.

How about a structured data set with all statutes and regulations in the U.S. and all 50 states? We've been quietly collecting data for https://openlaws.us/api over the past 3 years.

Contextual data. Data in context. 70,000 is data, but meaningless without context. Is it a population? Weight? Distance? Money? If money, in what currency? Website visitors? Transactions? Transactions over what period of time? Steps? Depth?
