Let's recognize nurses during National Nursing Week.
What is it like to be a nurse?
One of my dearest friends, Kirsten, shared her insights and experiences ...
"The best part of my job is undoubtedly the people. Being there for individuals, serving as their advocate, and supporting their families during the most challenging times is incredibly fulfilling. However, it's also one of the most challenging aspects. The stress and fear that patients and families experience during illness or injury can be overwhelming. It requires a delicate balance of empathy and professionalism to navigate these raw emotions. Providing comfort, information, and assistance to help them through such difficult moments brings a sense of reward and fulfilment."
"Nursing is not simply a business; it's about caring for people in their most vulnerable moments, and it's disheartening when financial considerations overshadow this fundamental aspect. Despite the challenges, nursing offers a diverse range of opportunities, allowing individuals to work in various specialties and settings. While it's a demanding career, many nurses are driven by a desire to make a difference in people's lives."
"However, retaining nurses in the profession can be challenging due to various factors, including compensation and workload. Reducing administrative burdens would enable nurses to focus more on what truly matters—patient care. Overall, nursing is a rewarding yet demanding career that requires dedication, compassion, and resilience."
Recognize the value and importance that nurses play in our healthcare system. Treat them with respect and support their work. They are under-appreciated and unbelievably overworked.
Happy National Nursing Week to all the amazing nurses out there. 🎉
