In 2024, I decided to tackle the issue of antimicrobial resistance with an unconventional approach by releasing a gangsta-rap song titled "The P*** vs. The B**** – The Viral Klebsiella Track Exposing AMR Dangers!" This choice might seem bold, but I firmly believe that innovation and creativity are key to making our message more impactful and accessible. In the song, I’ve depicted the doctor as a gangster and Klebsiella pneumoniae as a clever, elusive figure. This portrayal is not just an ironic and playful gimmick but a way to highlight the seriousness of the fight against resistant infections. Using irony and humor doesn’t diminish the importance of the message; rather, it makes it more engaging and memorable, breaking through the often rigid barriers of scientific communication. Posting this song on LinkedIn, a professional networking platform, is an attempt to show that creativity can and should play a significant role even in serious contexts. This track is a tribute to everyone fighting daily against antimicrobial resistance and aims to spark reflection and discussion within our professional community. Welcome to the Biosafety Casefile for April, featuring one of my favourite microorganisms - Francisella tularensis! What happens when a laboratory worker presents with flu-like symptoms at the height of the flu season? The mystery deepens when it's revealed that the worker followed their laboratory biosafety protocols, and still developed a LAI.
