[𝗕𝗖 - 𝗕𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗱] Meet Ms. Ngoc Tran (Carol) - Former President of RMIT Vietnam Business Club SGS, Project Leader of Marketing Challengers Season 10, and Public Relations Leader of The Logisticom Season 5. “Looking back on my time at RMIT Vietnam Business Club SGS, I'm grateful for the personal growth and professional development it provided. Before joining the club, I was active in other organizations, but becoming a member of BiCier took my leadership and networking skills to the next level. I dedicated my university years to the club - instead of internships or part-time work, I was fully involved in the BC community for 3 years. Looking back, even though I regretted not participating in any professional working environment outside of university, I am still thankful for the time I spent in the club. This experience in BC shaped me tremendously, giving me practical leadership experience and helping me build lasting connections. My proudest achievement was leading Marketing Challengers Season 10 (Marcha) as a project leader. Before this role, I didn't have many major accomplishments I could feel genuinely proud of. Marcha was a turning point, allowing my hard work and dedication to shine. Of course, it wasn't always smooth sailing. But overcoming those struggles taught me flexibility and problem-solving. Most importantly, the success of Marcha gave me confidence in my abilities. It was a chance to evaluate my skills and realize my potential. To describe my experience with BC, I'd say it was 'super tiring' I took on multiple leadership roles while studying full-time! But I have no regrets. If I hadn't become so involved, there would have been consequences too, like missing connections with many impressive seniors. Of course, joining the club came with both rewards and demands. Looking back, I can laugh and say I worked 'super hard' during those formative years. The tiredness was worth it for the relationships, skills and memories I gained. BC enabled us to have the privilege of working alongside many senior members who were deeply respected. Observing and collaborating with their leadership styles allowed me to reflect and improve. BC's values and culture resonated most strongly with me of all the organizations I've been part of. I was not a natural leader in the beginning. But through meeting challenges head-on, I confronted my weaknesses. The pressure to meet expectations pushed me the most. Despite the difficulty, I emerged with stronger resilience and self-belief. I realized progress requires stumbles - the more I fell, the more I learned. Developing mental strength to pick me back up was crucial. Of limitless options, I'd choose RMIT Vietnam Business Club SGS without hesitation. The club transformed me and built my skills and confidence before entering the workforce. Beyond Excellent was launched in order to find and recognize more excellent individuals, as well as help the team to create a positive working atmosphere, where all colleagues in GWI can nominate peers recognizing and living out the philosophy of long-term/sustainability around you. The 3 key attitudes that are taken into consideration are: - Dare to be first, keep innovating. - Openness and trust, win-win cooperation. - Be down-to-earth and persistent, high quality oriented and long-term. 

In the fast-paced world we live in, it’s easy to overlook the differences between recognition and being noticed. While being noticed normally refers to visibility and awareness of what one is doing, its surface level at best and doesn’t always translate into validation. On the other hand, recognition is more than just a pat on the back or being noticed; it’s a testament to the dedication and passion we bring to work. It fuels motivation and reminds us that every effort, no matter how minor it may seem, contributes to a bigger picture. It reflects a deeper understanding of your role and the significance of your work. Being recognized requires consistent performance, attention to small details, and going above and beyond expectations without being asked. Don’t just get on the radar by being noticed, strive for recognition that propels you forward and affirms the value of the work you do. How can you work on being recognized, not just noticed?

Today marks the end of an adventure of almost 13 years at SGS. Today I would like to express my #GRATTITUDE to all those who have accompanied me in this chapter: my colleagues all over the World, my managers who have always supported me, customers and partners who have always trusted me unconditionally. #THANKYOU to all of you. Please allow me to share my "take aways" from this adventure: 1. INTEGRITY: There are people who, no matter how different and diverse their circumstances may be, share your values, and demonstrate them daily with their commitment. 2. PEOPLE: "Many small people, in small places, doing small things, can change the World". 3. RESILIENCE: Life is change. Many of us have led/are leading in high consequence environments and are educated to Masters level in relevant areas. And the Oscar goes to…. Nominations for this year’s Oscar’s have been announced this week and it got me thinking about recognition and acknowledgment. Everyone appreciates a pat on the back for a job well done. We want to feel valued and respected by our employers and our colleagues. We spend a lot of our lives working so recognition of our commitment, loyalty and achievements makes us feel good. However, just like the Oscars, most people don’t come away with a prize or an award. Their work isn’t acknowledged or lauded, publicly or otherwise. And we have got to feel ok in ourselves about that. We have to find our own satisfaction in a job well done regardless of what others think of us. We need to feel peace of mind that we have done our best and made a positive contribution. Chasing or expecting appreciation and recognition can lead to resentment and a reduction in productivity. 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑴𝒚 𝑱𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒚 In 1980, I embarked on my first full-time job as a Management Trainee at Emporium Holdings Group’s Klasse Departmental Store in Singapore. I was transferred to Brunei to open the very first Klasse Departmental Store in 1981 and was promoted to Divisional Supervisor in 1982. Recently, I stumbled upon a reminder card from my supervisory training, and to my surprise, the principles it contained in 1980 remain as relevant today as they were back then. What stands out is that these principles inherently supported Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), long before they became mainstream priorities. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲: 1. Show your people you respect them as individuals. 2. Place your people to make maximum use of their abilities. 3. Correct constructively. 4. Help your people achieve job satisfaction. 5. Reinforce the group concept.   𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞: 🔘 No two people are alike. Each must be treated as an individual. 🔘 Take advantage of individual strengths. 🔘 When correcting errors, attack the problem, not the person. 🔘 People need to know that what they are doing is important. Always praise good performance. 🔘 Involve your people in running your store. Make it “our store,” rather than “my store.” Reflecting on my journey, I’m curious about the varying ways managers and supervisors interpret and apply these timeless principles. Or why are they not applying this? As we move forward, let’s integrate these principles with a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Embracing DEI means recognizing and valuing diverse perspectives, ensuring equitable opportunities for growth, and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard.
