🏠Our Residential Transitional Housing program provides housing and supports to women and children for up to a year, but the support doesn't end there! 🌈For those who've completed our residential program, the journey continues with the support and guidance of our Aftercare Program. Here's how it works: 🔹 Ongoing Support: Our dedicated outreach worker is there to provide continued guidance and encouragement. 🔹 Connection to Community Resources: Our knowledgeable team is constantly building connections with community resources to best serve the women in our Aftercare program. 🔹 Counseling Services: Access professional support for any ongoing challenges. 🔹 Tangible Supports: Through generous donations from community members, we are able to provide women in our Aftercare program with donated items to help support their new home. This program is evolving to meet the needs of the women and children we support! Consider supporting Marillac Place, as we grow to meet the needs of our community.

Not enough

After I packed my kid off to school in pyjamas for 'Pudsby Day' (please no one correct her!) I sat down to put together a list of children and family charities near us to decide after school who to donate to. You see her school don't do collections at school, because it creates pressure on kids who may not be able to. One of the many reasons I love the place. But they don't stop there. This is the message we received: "We would ask you to support something you feel is deserving. Look locally, nationally and abroad and support in any way you can. This then becomes an area or cause you as a family care about. Sadly, there are all too many examples of children in need." I love this even more. Because it encouarges families to think more deeply about children 'in need' and create more of a connection, and take action that works for them. This directly addresses some of the things that are problematic about Children in Need. This thread from Cathy Reay sets it out so clearly. https://lnkd.in/eKVdvvBN In short - Children in Need has a massive platform but doesn't use it to influence for change in the systems that are creating this 'need'. The way it uses stories is exploitative of the people it sets out to support. It doesn't genuinely connect donors with the work to create lasting relationships. And the funding model prevents charities working in the ways they know are needed. I mean, they're not alone. There is so much need for change in our sector, and they are just one organsiation. But they are one with an ENORMOUS platform they could use to lead the way. And the irony is, so many charities they fund have changed the way they work and the way they talk about their work - empowering, walking alongside, and most importantly fighting for change in the systems that lead to 29% of children in our country living in poverty. But too many of our funders haven't got the message, and aren't empowering us to do the work. And we need them to start listening, and working with us to drive the changes our society needs.
