I research reproductive and perinatal health issues that can inform policy and practice to improve outcomes for mothers, infants, and families.
Thank you to Kentucky Lantern for covering this important research that I was a part of with Kentucky Health Justice Network, Ohio State University, and University of Cincinnati. In this paper, we used data from the Kentucky Department for Public Health and a Kentucky-based abortion fund (Kentucky Health Justice Network) to assess differences between women seeking assistance from the fund and women who had a documented abortion. We found that Black women, younger women, and those at later gestations of pregnancy were more likely to seek financial and practical assistance from the fund compared to those who had an abortion in Kentucky. Our findings are not surprising. People who are already disproportionately impacted by lack of access to care and historical and contemporary policies that have created and exacerbated racism and poverty, and have the worst outcomes during and after pregnancy, are most impacted by restrictive abortion policies in Kentucky. Learn about and donate to Kentucky Health Justice Network to help those in need of assistance here: https://lnkd.in/eGdhdvyF Read our research paper here (it is open access): https://lnkd.in/eZkAk9eM Read coverage on the paper from Sarah Ladd at Kentucky Lantern here: https://lnkd.in/e46JRf4a

Today is Giving Tuesday! Did you know that you can double your donation through your employer’s matching gift program? Check with your human resources team today and help twice as many Texans travel to their out-of-state appointments! Now more than ever, Texans must rely on their own communities for support when accessing out-of-state abortions. Requiring people to travel for abortion care comes with a lot of additional costs, so Fund Texas Choice turns your generosity into real resources for Texans needing abortions! #givingtuesday #abortion #proabortion #travelsupport #texasabortion #practicalsupport #reproductivejustice #abortionfund #practicalsupportfund #reproductiverights #texanssupportingtexans #supportreproductiverights

Earlier this month, a report out of Northwestern University Medill School sounded the alarm on the growing divide between those who have access to quality news — and those who don't. This dynamic "poses a far-reaching crisis for our democracy," the authors concluded, given the almost overwhelming proliferation of misinformation online. So what's the solution? Investing in #digitalnews is an important first step — something folks can do today on #givingtuesday2023, or what many journalists like to think of as #GivingNewsDay. If you believe in expert coverage of reproductive and sexual health, rights, and justice issues, I hope you'll consider donating to the #nonprofit Rewire News Group. https://bit.ly/3GEaCj3

Today we celebrate International Day of People with Disability and acknowledge the 4.4 million Australians with disability, including more than 3,000 Australians living with FSHD, a highly complex and progressive muscle wasting disease causing weakening and loss of skeletal muscle in adults and children, robbing the ability to walk, talk, smile, blink or even eat. Together we can make our community more accessible, equitable and inclusive for people with disability. Storytelling is a powerful tool that connects us all, share your stories with your colleagues, each other, as no two experiences are the same. Share the ways you celebrate #IDPWD to help raise awareness, challenge perceptions & breakdown barriers. FSHD Global Research Foundation is funding research to find treatments and a cure for FSHD, and to improve quality of life for all. We are also advocating to break down barriers for diagnostics and bring clinical trials to Australia. To support our work, please donate: fshdglobal.org/donate #fshd #disabilityawareness #advocacy #medicalresearch

What is the most effective thing you can do for the unborn? As pro-lifers, there are endless things we could be doing. Holding a fundraiser, sidewalk counseling, attending events with other pro-lifers, volunteering at a retirement home, and talking with pro-choice people about abortion...the options are endless! With limited resources and thousands of kids killed every day, we owe it to these children to be strategic. Their lives depend on it. If you're trying to pick the most effective thing you can do for the unborn, try this: Put yourself in their shoes. If you were scheduled to be killed in one week and someone out there said they wanted to save you, what actions would you hope they would take? Some of the most effective things you can do to tangibly help children scheduled to die are sidewalk counseling and changing pro-choice minds about abortion. Want to get started? DM us! Recent polling from Planned Parenthood Federation of America shows Americans favor permanently ending the global gag rule by a 36-point margin - 77% of Democrats, 71% of Independents, and 58% of Republicans think it should end. Women's Refugee Commission agrees. Access to safe abortion is essential health care for refugee women and girls. For 40 years, the global gag rule has prohibited non-U.S. organizations from receiving U.S. humanitarian aid -- an essential source of funding -- if they provide or just refer people to legal abortion services, even if they use no U.S. funds for this work. The global gag rule is not currently in effect but future administrations can reinstate it. The proposed abortion rules in Iowa are a far cry from the reality of how doctors care for their patients. These policies don't reflect the patient-centered approach that forms the core of medical ethics and practice. At Iowans for Health Liberty, we echo this sentiment. Legislation should support, not hinder, the vital relationship between a physician and their patient. For a healthcare system that respects professional medical judgment and patient needs, we must raise our voices. Visit iowans4healthliberty.com to learn how you can help make a difference. https://lnkd.in/g4nk3rek #IA4HL #Iowans4HealthLiberty #HealthcareFreedom #ReproductiveRights #abortionishealthcare #abortionrights #WomensRights #Donate #JoinUs

Young mothers in Kilifi face significant challenges, with 1 in 5 girls aged 15-19 either pregnant or already a mother. These early pregnancies often lead to school dropouts, stigma, and societal rejection. Many of these girls also experience economic hardships, compounded by cultural barriers and a lack of support systems. Poverty forces some into early marriages or exploitative relationships, with Gender-Based Violence (GBV) being a prevalent issue. Through the ‘Impact a Mother, Change a Story’ initiative, EmpowerNet Org is joining like-minded organizations to uplift young mothers, ensuring they receive the support needed to rebuild their lives and break the cycle for future generations. Our program advocates for equal access to education, women’s economic empowerment, Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), and overall health. Join us on 31st August 2024 in Kachororoni, Ganze Sub County, and help us make an impact! We are seeking your donations: Consider a monetary contribution through our Paybill or donate items for the Mama Kit. Every donation, big or small, will make a significant difference in the lives of these young mothers and their children. #ImpactAMotherChangeAStory #WomenEmpowerment #GenderEquality #CommunityEmpowerment #EmpowerNet
