Not a magic trick! This is the smallest diaper we use on our tiniest babies in the NICU- the Pampers Professional P3 diaper. It’s not just that is smaller than a typical diaper. This diaper has no front or back, so nurses can perform diaper changes in a developmentally supportive way whether the infant is prone or supine, on a ventilator, or around tubes and lines. The scientists and NICU professionals that developed this diaper also made sure it traps liquid stool and urine to better protect the incredibly fragile skin of infants born at the limits of viability. A new project aimed at ensuring that newborn babies are referred to by their family’s preferred surname has been implemented on our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Bliss Baby Charter is a practical framework for Neonatal Units to assess their work against, and it outlines the importance of recognising each baby as an individual by using their correct name. Even when Trissels retired as the editor of the IV compatibility book, I had refused to stop calling it "Trissel's" (I still have the last 17th Edition). Even if the publisher may change the name in the subsequent editions. I may be adamantly stubborn calling the pregnancy and lactation book "Briggs'" (Psst. I do hope they keep the man's name in the title in subsequent editions in memory of his immense contributions and revolutionary life's work being a pioneer in evidence based medicine). Both exceedingly remarkable people. May they continue to inspire others even in death, and others aspire to continue the great work they have started. #pharmacylegends #briggs #trissels
