🦷 Swiss dental start-up Odne closed its Series A1 financing round, securing 4.8m CHF ($5.5m) to support its forthcoming US market launch. The round was led by independent venture fund Revere Partners and NV Capital, a family-owned venture capital boutique. The round also saw participation from several funds, including Dental Innovation Alliance (DIA), Plug and Play Tech Center, Hatcher and Züricher Kantonalbank. 📢Onde CEO and co-founder Dr Andreas Schmocker said: “With over 15 million root canal treatments per year, the US is the biggest market worldwide and our number one focus. ✅ INSIGHTECH raised $150M of venture funding in a deal led by Ally Bridge Group, Nexus Neurotech' and Fidelity Management & Research on June 18, 2024. Baillie Gifford and 4 other investors also participated in the round. The funds will be used to expand incision-less neurosurgery to the many patients suffering from movement disorders and continue to make calculated and strategic investments in new indications. ✅ The valuation in the round was not revealed, but according to Elbit Medical, which holds 3% of the company, the funding was raised at a $375 million valuation, down from $1 billion. 💡 Technology Spotlight: A System and Method for Implanting Longitudinal Intrafascicular Electrodes for Human Use Abstract In bioelectronic medicine and neuromodulation therapies, the electrical stimulation of nerves is used to restore functionalities lost due to disease or trauma. Peripheral neural interfaces (neural electrodes) are often used to deliver electrical stimulation or electrical charge to the nerve tissue for eliciting desired neurological functions/outcomes. Of the available various neural electrode types and configurations, intrafascicular electrodes are the preferred choice due to their ability to interface with a distinct group of nerve fibers that elicit a distinct function. Neural electrodes that are highly flexible (close to the mechanical properties of the nerve fibers) and small in diameter (micro/nanowires) are highly desirable in these advanced neuromodulation applications. Implanting these highly flexible and thin electrodes in the nerve, a soft and compliant tissue, is extremely difficult and time-consuming. We have developed a system and method for implanting target-specific multiple intrafascicular electrodes to facilitate the implantation process that aims to reduce difficulty and time during implantation. The system and method were invented to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the existing intrafascicular electrodes by enhancing the implantation process. The system and method are efficient in reducing the complexity of the intrafascicular electrode implantation process and in reducing the time taken to implant multiple intrafascicular electrodes. The system and method effectively increase the intrafascicular electrode's inherent selectivity properties. This system and method reduce the need for implanting a large number of electrodes in order to achieve the desired function(s) and also avoid activating unwanted or off-target functions. Advantages 1. Aids in implantation of currently being used in multiple intrafascicular electrode technologies. 2. Reduces the invasiveness of the intrafascicular electrode implantation procedure by: i. avoiding extensive epineural dissection to identify the fascicles ii. reducing the complexity of the implantation process by stabilizing the nerve iii. reducing the time for implantation of multiple electrodes iv. reducing nerve trauma during the electrode implantation process 3. Increases selectivity of intrafascicular electrodes. 4. Streamlines the intrafascicular electrode implantation process. 5. Manages surgical space by isolating the nerve from surroundings during electrode implantation. 6. Reduces the need for surgical training and specialization of surgeons thereby making nerve implants for bioelectronic medicine available more widely and with lower costs.
