Talking about cities, starting with an essential building block --the neighborhood! It seems that increasingly we are devoting more and more attention to studying cities. I am particularly heartened that old ways of talking about planning, typologies, and separate disciplines or "verticals" are giving way to broader, Intergrated views of the city, and delving deeper into their unique characteristics. Thus, this book from the perspective of neighborhoods. I am happy to be among the 35 authors of the publication and to have reflected, with colleagues from near and far, about the role, opportunities and characteristics of neighborhoods to contribute to the livability of cities.

Visiting Professor: Final presentation of the course on the History of Modern and Postmodern Architecture in Spain in the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo Carlos Raúl Villanueva, Caracas, Venezuela. Daniel Libeskind, a renowned Polish-American architect famously known for designing the Jewish Museum in Berlin, emphasizes that even though a building is finished, it becomes part of a new dynamic: how people will occupy it, use it, and think about it. Libeskind, born in 1946 in Łódź, Poland, is also celebrated for his master plan to reconstruct the World Trade Center site in New York. “The StreetArtCEI project in Campanhã”, Writingplace: Journal for Architecture and Literature nº 8 e 9, special issue “Writing Urban Places. New Narratives for the European City”, eds. Klaske Havik, Susana Oliveira, Jorge Mejía Hernández e Holly Dal, section “Porto – Campanhã. Stories from the City’s Edge”, coord. Carlos Machado e Moura e Eliana Sousa Santos, 2023, pp. 122-8. LINK: https://lnkd.in/d3ru3Sr2 The special issue Writing Urban Places: New Narratives on the European City, marks the culmination of an international research network that delved into the intricate interplay between communities, urban spaces and narratives. At its core, this endeavour introduced an inventive approach aimed at deepening our comprehension of urban communities, their dynamics and their rootedness, all through the lens of narrative methodologies. This collection gives an account of the dynamics of this network of academics, which consists of over 175 individuals from 35 different European countries and a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. As such, the issue offers a conclusion to the Writing Urban Places COST Action while also, hopefully, providing a springboard for further reflections and discussions on urban narratives, and the role these could play in spatial developments in the European city.

A very interesting moment of reflection, with different insights, from both within and outside our trade, allowing us to diagnose difficulties but also enhancing strengths and opportunities. Thanks to all that made it possible!

NCNTP is a three-year project that started in 2022 and will continue until 2025. Bringing together urbanists, architects, and space designers from seven European countries, New Temporality originally developed around the large-scale topic of architecture during crises and unstable times.  New Temporality is a European project, a consortium of 8 partner organisations, the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, together with the APSS Institute in Podgorica, the Barleti University in Tirana, the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial, the Berlin Coopera, the Pavilion of Culture Kyiv, the Trans-Media-Akademie Hellerau in Dresden and the Lisbon Architecture Triennial, which aims to strengthen architectural culture across the continent, documenting, researching and valuing common temporary spaces and questioning the notions of permanence and stability associated with the spatial dimension of architecture. *The New Cross-National Temporality project NCNTP is a three-year joint programme among cultural entities and academic institutions from seven countries financed by @creative.eu #NewTemporality #Coopera
