The feedback from my fall experiment of offering free habitat workshops was so positive I’ve decided to host seasonal habitat workshops this year to share actionable ways to create a more ecologically sustainably landscape - with the focus on the function of our yards as a wildlife habitat. The size of the workshops is intentionally limited to make them more interactive and encourage authentic connections. I’ve worked hard to offer hands-on and practical ideas geared towards anyone who is at the beginning of the process of restoring habitat where they live. I’m maintaining the low-key nature of the workshops by reaching out through my networks to folks who are open to making their yards more wildlife friendly. Feel free to share this information with anyone who you think "gets it" and might benefit. The Winter Habitat Yard Workshop is on Sunday, February 25 from 12:00-2:00pm. Spring and summer dates are in the works! The workshops are for adults, but children of all ages are welcome – after all it’s their future we’re all trying to save! While you might feel inundated with requests, want to take a moment to share why The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation should make the cut for a charitable contribution this year. https://lnkd.in/d6Ecf-Wp Your dollars directly support the following critical initiatives and our work is simply not possible without individual and corporate support to supplement the 26 years of financial contribution and dedication of time from our founder Ward Burton. *Conservation Initiatives - Conserving our natural resources – implementing proper land management practices on our properties and supporting landowners to do the same, all while protecting the buffer zones of two Army National Guard training bases. This latter allows our military to train safely, while giving the land a voice. To date, over 45K+ acres have been protected in perpetuity and 10K+ additional acres are managed as conservation models. *Education – We’ll continue to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards by partnering with key organizations to share our hands-on and interactive wildlife and conservation educational programming. This year we’ve reached over 1K youth with our programming. *Veteran Outreach – We owe so much to those who have served and currently serve to protect our freedoms. WBWF will continue to host Veteran groups at our properties for outdoor activities promoting community and fellowship. Last year, we were able to invest over $225K to build out our Outreach Facility to serve as a venue for these purpose driven events. Additionally, each year we’ll provide a Veteran with a trained emotional support dog to overcome the everyday challenges sometimes faced post-deployment. Tuesday #nature news 🐾 And it's more great news for our most iconic Ecosystem Engineer here in the UK... Yes the Beaver 😀 Yes the first beaver Kit born in Northumberland for 400 years 👀 🙌 To put that in perspective the last Kit was born nearly 200 years before Charles Darwin was born 😮 Just over a year ago the National Trust released four beavers into an enclosure on the Wallington Estate, near Rothbury and they have been hard at work doing what they do best. Shaping ecosystems and boosting biodiversity 🌿 They have built a number of dams, canals and burrows across the reserve and already these are slowing the flow of water and creating ponds, pools and mudbanks. The resulting wetlands have also helped to attract kingfishers, foraging Daubenton’s bats 🦇 and benefitted the declining native, white-clawed crayfish. 🦀 We continue to see the rise in species that are declining across areas where Beavers are present. Their importance should never be underestimated and their impact to the environment is critical 🌳 In May The heavily pregnant female was first spotted and footage captured shortly after showed a kit heading back to the family lodge and taking a dip. What a moment this must of been for the team 😀 Beavers are not just making a comeback...they are BACK! 😁 right where they belong 😎 Northumberland and Wallington Reserve have a new little ecosystem engineer and I am sure in know time he will become as key and effective as creating new habitats for many different species of wildlife, just like his parents 😃 https://lnkd.in/eBvNhz_H #naturenews #rewilding #conservation #ecosystems #habitats #envrionment #beavers
