The Ambani wedding is probably the most expensive marketing campaign ever. India's richest family has always had a penchant for the over-the-top. In fact, people forget that for Akash Ambani's wedding, they flew down Beyoncé and John Legend to perform at the Antilla, and now Rihanna for a pre-wedding party (whatever that is) and Justin Bieber for Sangeet (usually a karaoke performance with aunties in other weddings). However, it is such a carefully crafted PR circus, intended to do just one thing: have us cringe publicly and watch all the behind-the-scenes video in private. We might feel like this is a huge waste of resources, time, effort and most of all money but we forget that none of this matters to them. The Ambanis are notoriously off the press otherwise. We don't hear negative press regarding anyone, and the moment Anil Ambani declared bankruptcy, Mukesh Ambani's "selfless act" of saving his brother was glorified, then it was never heard of again. Coming to my point, I feel like Ambanis realise the crux of what the Indian population believes in: jo dikhta hai woh bikta hai. What happens in the back-end of the business end of it is something no one will question, as long as they have a dash of entertainment and escapism to showcase through such extravagant events. So, as long as we feed the frenzy, the show will go on. P.S - This post is as pointless and vague as the wedding shenanigans, enjoy.
