Better Questions, Better Results I don’t know the proper etiquette on spoilers, especially for books that have been made into movies, so out of an abundance of caution I will start with this: <SPOILER WARNING> Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton I had seen the movie, but in an effort to build some discipline in my reading skills heading off to college, I thought it may be a good idea to read some books.  One of the books I read that summer was Jurassic Park. If you haven’t read it before, I would encourage you to give it a read – especially if you have enjoyed the movies. The two things I remember most about the book are: 1.   The chapters are super short.  This made the book difficult for me to put down as it was so easy to read “one more chapter.” 2.   An important plot element around the asking of questions. This plot element I will share with you today as it shows the importance of the questions you ask. There was a lot of emphasis put on the security of Jurassic Park, and with regularity, a count was done on the dinosaurs to make sure that none of them had gotten away.  When the time came, security would look for a certain number of a particular kind of dinosaur and when that number was achieved the next dinosaur would be counted. It seemed to be a fine question to ask to make sure all were safe on the island.  But it didn’t account for dinosaurs reproducing.  This element amplified the drama of the story.   It also highlights the importance of the questions we ask. There is a world of difference in asking if you can find 10 raptors and how many raptors can you find. When the question was changed in the book, there was a huge breakthrough.   The same thing can happen for us as well.  When we ask better questions, we can have breakthroughs also.  Breakthroughs for ourselves, our teams, our patients, our customers, our business – better questions can benefit everyone! World Snake Day 🐍 World Snake Day is celebrated on July 16 every year to highlight the important role these reptiles play in maintaining the ecological balance. The snake is one of the oldest mythological characters and has been revered by civilizations the world over. There are about 3,458 species of snakes known so far, ranging from the semi-frozen tundra of northern Canada to the steamy jungles of the equator and most of the world’s oceans. Snakes are highly effective predators and play a vital role in maintaining the balance of nature in each of these realms. Snakes are also fascinating in that they have a prehistoric lineage, thus giving us a glimpse back to a prehistoric time when the earth was ruled by reptiles—many people have no idea that modern reptiles are literally the living, breathing cousins of dinosaurs.

Like the dinosaur I find it extremely satisfying to see archaic ways of doing business go by the wayside. While not gone all together more owners are investing in optimal pricing and value added services over trips and frivolities. It’s the future for our industry to continue to move the needle to more profitability and successes. #focusonthefuture

“Clever girl”…Remember in Jurassic Park when the game warden sees a velociraptor emerge from the jungle? Great scene. When I was thrashing through thick undergrowth on a mini adventure this week, I was reminded of that moment. Firstly, I love stories and imagination…and dinosaurs, so on this misty morning it was easy to imagine a T-Rex round the corner. 🦖 Secondly, I had lost the hound. She has a habit of rolling in mud, fox poo or worse; then creeping up on me and covering me in slobber and paw prints. 🐾🐕 I glanced from left to right, listening for the breaking of branches, struggling to see into the undergrowth, my heart racing knowing there was no time to change muddy clothes before the school run, when: Splat. The hound was on me, she had crept out from the foggy forest before I could dodge. “Clever girl”. I work with successful, busy people regarding big questions, challenges and goals. Important, sometimes serious stuff. But one of the things I encourage my clients to do, is think where they can add stories and adventure into their life. If we can’t be a fully grown adult, pretending there is a dinosaur around the corner, how can we allow ourselves to dream of a different, exciting career path?
