TAKE CONTROL of ARC FLASH! Electrical Safety Specialist, Management Consultant - helping employers take control of electrical hazard management with validated residual risk at TW Becker Electrical Safety Consulting Inc.
TAKE CONTROL of ARC FLASH TW Becker Electrical Safety Consulting Inc. Electrical Safety Bulletins Electrical Safety Bulletins (ESB) that you can be downloaded and used as reference documents with an employer's Electrical Safety Program. In both occupational health and safety management system standards (e.g. ISO 45001) and NFPA 70E or CSA Z462 the application of appropriate hierarchy or risk control methods to eliminate exposure to a hazard or reduce risk to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) is a prescriptive requirement. This is also a regulated requirement under OSHA in the United States or OH&S Acts/Regulations in Canada, the same would apply Internationally. Applying the hierarchy or risk control methods in the order presented is required. Not all hierarchy or risk control methods apply to all energized electrical work tasks that may be completed. The Qualified Person can only apply four (4) of the risk controls methods directly, the employer controls selection and implementation of "Substitution and Engineering Safety by Design/Prevention Through Design (PtD)" and if implemented the Qualified Person needs to understand what has been applied, confirm that it is programmed, tested and active (e.g. maint. mode switch or arc flash relay) or the type of electrical equipment specified (e.g. IEEE C37.20.7 arc resistant electrical equipment and restrictions). Other considerations apply to "Substitution and Engineering Safety by Design/Prevention through Design (PtD)." This ESB provides a table of electrical safety specific risk control methods that can be selected and applied as an outcome of an employer's qualitative risk assessment. Inherent and residual risk levels for an energized electrical work task are determined. If the inherent risk level with existing risk control methods is not acceptable, then apply additional risk control methods if possible to lower the residual risk level. This process would be outlined and completed in an employer's Electrical Safety Program. If you review the table and identify any electrical safety specific risk control methods I may have missed, add a comment to this post. The ESBs will also be posted on the company website, www.twbesc.ca. If you have any questions or comments please email me [email protected]. If information changes related to the subject of the Electrical Safety Bulletin I will repost the updated version. #shock #arcflash #maintenance #70e #z462 #oshacompliance #osh

TAKE CONTROL of ARC FLASH! Electrical Safety Specialist, Management Consultant - helping employers take control of electrical hazard management with validated residual risk at TW Becker Electrical Safety Consulting Inc.
TAKE CONTROL of ARC FLASH TW Becker Electrical Safety Consulting Inc. Electrical Safety Bulletins Electrical Safety Bulletins (ESB) that can be downloaded and used as reference documents with an employer's Electrical Safety Program. In the hierarchy or risk control methods documentation is a lower order risk control method, but critically important to achieving and confirming an expected residual risk level and positively influencing the likelihood of occurrence. I find that in many cases there is limited to no documentation related to electrical equipment re-energization. For planned maintenance on low or high voltage electrical equipment an Electrically Safe Work Condition would be established. It is critical that before re-energizing the Person-in-Charge (PIC) complete a detailed inspection that may also be validated by an additional Qualified Electrical Worker Low or High Voltage. The attached Electrical Safety Bulletin includes a simple Pre-Energization Checklist that needs to be included in an Energized Electrical Job Safety Planning (EEJSP) form and utilized before electrical equipment is re-energized. If you review the table and believe additional questions should be added please add a comment to this post. The TW Becker Electrical Safety Consulting Inc. ESBs will also be posted on the company website. If you have any questions or comments please email me at [email protected]. Electrical Reliability Professional | I help facilities EXECUTE electrical infrared programs through effective training and professional services. Ready to get started? Message me.
Feeling behind on maintenance? Here's how to take action on electrical maintenance tasks. 👇 Let's get to it. 1. Create a task list Create a list of all the electrical maintenance tasks that need to be done, no matter how small they may seem. This can help you see the full scope of the work that needs to be done and can make it feel more manageable. 2. Set a deadline for completion Without a set deadline or timeframe, it can be easy to put off a task indefinitely. Set a realistic deadline for completing the task and hold yourself accountable to it. If you can’t complete the task in 15 minute increments, it’s too big. Break it down into smaller chunks. 3. Consider hiring a professional If the maintenance tasks feel overwhelming because you lack expertise to complete them safely, consider hiring an electrical professional. You want to build relationships with professionals that execute on electrical maintenance. They can teach you how to do it or do it for you. Whatever you do, don’t get stuck not starting. - Create a task list - Set a deadline - Hire a pro Get after it. _____ Enjoy this? I'm Cody Jackson ⚡ Click my name👆 + follow + 🔔 I teach maintenance teams to confidently EXECUTE electrical infrared inspections at their own facilities. #electrical #maintenance #reliability #predictivemaintenance #manufacturing #maintenancemanager #NFPA #NFPA70B #NFPA70E #electricalsafety #infrared
