Following on from our webinar Matthew Gardner and I hosted a few weeks ago to deliver the results of our Legal Business Services - ED&I Survey.. we have a few take aways.. ...and providing timely feedback to candidates following an interview is one them and it is SO important. Especially when they haven’t been selected for a role. In our recent survey of legal business services professionals, 34% believe that discrimination played a part in why they were or were not selected for a position in a law firm. Did discrimination truly play a part in why these people weren’t selected? It’s hard to know for sure. But failure to provide feedback or giving vague feedback such as ‘they weren’t the right fit’, just isn’t good enough and increases the likelihood of people to making assumptions about the ‘real’ reasons why they weren’t selected i.e. due to discrimination. If you are a hiring manager, giving timely, specific feedback to candidates following an interview process is so important.  And, quite frankly, it’s good manners! 

Completely agree with Olivia Kelly on this, there's nothing more demoralising for jobseekers than spending time and effort preparing for an interview only to be told you're 'not the right fit'. Or worse still, not hearing back at all! Ambition's latest survey results clearly indicate that while progress is being made, more needs to be done by firms to ensure that hiring processes are inclusive. #diversityandinclusion
