A good interactive on climate tipping points from the New York Times that gets at a key point from a risk perspective. Many of these are not “low probability, high impact” events. Some are very much at risk even on optimistic emissions trajectories, with potentially catastrophic or unpredictable impacts, and better characterized as “high probability, high impact” events. 6 of 16 tipping points in the 2nd link are at risk under 2 degrees C warming, well under our existing trajectory. From a security and stability perspective, we need to evaluate why we find almost no risk or uncertainty acceptable when considering terrorism or foreign military capabilities.
