Every time I sit my father, these are his exact thoughts and couldn't agree more on this.
It's true in every sense and has been the reason I am grateful for building and having everything around me.

Giving gets you further ahead in your career.
The people who always take and only think about their own needs end up missing opportunities.
Selfishness destroys them. Everyone around them looks the other way.
The most helpful people always win. They get the promotions, raises, and awards. They also have the best network full of people who can raise them up.
If a helpful person gets laid off or demoted they often have an easier time finding their next opportunity.
They just have coffee with all the people they've helped.
Unselfishness is a superpower.

Give first. That is a value I've always lived by, even when I didn't realise it was a value.
I learn from doing, helping and teaching.
Interestingly,I never understood having this mindset and intra or entrepreneurial spirit when I was in corporate. Yet I did also enjoy working with my colleagues to help them out or teach or guide where needed.
Now I business where everything can be monetized, how easily will we help or guide first?
That is what true mentorship and leadership means to me, a space where we can share and grow together.

100% agree. And would add, extend this to outside of work, to your everyday, make it your character and your personal culture and watch as your whole outlook and the people and things around you grow and flourish out of contentment and a sense of pride for who you are and the contributions you can make.
What better legacy to leave at work, within your community and in life than to have a positive impact on others and the shared environment, in a miltitude of ways. Hold the door, ask someone if they are okay (with enough time to mean it and listen). Pick up that litter that’s not yours. Smile at someone even if they are hardfaced…especially if they are hardfaced.
Ask that homeless person whether they need anything and whatever they feel they ‘need’, don’t judge. Stay and chat a while, being seen and heard is a basic human need on which we all thrive. Defend someone whether they are present or not, be a cheerleader and a guardian of rights. When you want to say something mean say something nice, that is also true. Be genuine, always. Sincerity breeds sincerity. Be mindful, observant, and ready to step up.
That’s success. That’s leadership. That’s what matters.

Helping people at work without seeking anything in return can yield various benefits, such as:
1. Building Trust and Rapport: By offering genuine assistance without expecting anything in return, you establish trust and rapport with your colleagues. This can lead to stronger relationships and a supportive work environment.
2. Enhancing Team Morale: Acts of kindness and support can boost morale within the team. When coworkers feel supported and valued, they are more likely to be motivated and engaged in their work.
3. Fostering Collaboration: Helping others fosters a spirit of collaboration and teamwork. When individuals feel comfortable seeking help and offering assistance, it creates a culture of cooperation where everyone can contribute to achieving common goals.
4. Developing Skills and Knowledge: Teaching or assisting others can deepen your own understanding of a subject or task. Explaining concepts to others often requires a deeper level of comprehension, which can enhance your own skills and knowledge.
5. Building a Positive Reputation: Consistently helping others without seeking personal gain can build a positive reputation for you as a reliable, supportive, and generous team member. This can lead to recognition from colleagues and supervisors and may open up opportunities for advancement or collaboration in the future.
6. Creating a Sense of Fulfillment: Helping others can be intrinsically rewarding and can contribute to a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. Knowing that you've made a positive impact on someone else's work or well-being can be personally fulfilling and motivating.
Overall, helping others at work without expecting anything in return not only benefits the recipients but also contributes to a positive and supportive work culture while fostering personal growth and fulfillment.

Helping colleagues is like passing around a flashlight in a dark cave.
Even if you're not the one in darkness now, you're ensuring that when you need it, the light will be passed back to you.

Never let weak leadership be your destiny. Let it be your opportunity.
That was my answer when someone recently asked me, "What's the best career advice you've ever received and did it help you?"
I've used this advice my entire career. For me, this approach retains my power to make my own career decisions and puts me in a place of curiosity - how can I make this not-so-great experience an opportunity?
