Hey LinkedIn fam! I'm grateful for the "attaboys" and congrats, but this post was #satire. Let that be a public lesson that tone doesn't always translate via written text. Today's The Wall Street Journal has an interesting and super-relevant item called "Job Scams Are Flourishing, Young Workers Are Especially Susceptible" and I thought to call out some good points for ALL #jobseekers; 1. Verify then Trust > Trust then Verify "Job scammers are also using job boards and networking sites like Indeed, ZipRecruiter and LinkedIn, which has prompted those sites to update their fraud-detection efforts." It is *critical* to ensure that the opportunity presented to you and the individual doing so both *actually exist* 2. In-Person Or Video Interviews Or It Didn't Happen "Job seekers should be wary of texts or emails that ask them to do an interview in any app they need to download, such as Signal or WhatsApp, or requests to conduct interviews only by text, email or online chat." This one seems obvious, but let's use my exceptional text interview and hiring experience below as a good example 😜 3. Expenses ≠ Employment "Any question about personal information or bank-account numbers, and promises to send a check to cover work-from-home equipment are red flags." Another one that seems obvious, but the article highlights a few victims of this type of financial fraud and it is super-important to be aware-to-wary. The employer is supposed to cut checks for YOU. It's a rough/tough employment market on *every* side of the table; as my new pal Paul DeBettignies said during last week's Minnesota Talent Leaders conference, "something is broken in hiring." These additional hurdles/barriers/etc. certainly exacerbate the issue and make the #jobhunt even more fraught. I'm confident that we can fix it.
Can’t wait to start my new job! 🙃 #hiring #recruiting #candidateexperience #seemslegit

The largest fraud on LinkedIn: I'm hiring for a number of roles. "Like this post and I will review your profile" "Share your email and phone number and we will contact you" "Comment interested below and I will review your profile" Please be aware that no professional in talent acquisition, including recruiters, will ever hire someone in such an unprofessional way. All they are doing is taking your responses and turning them into a database, nothing more. These so-called jobs are completely nonexistent.

𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐩 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞… Are you are receiving auto-rejections within 24-hours? I recommend reviewing one part of your application process: ❌ THE KNOCKOUT QUESTIONS ❌ As you answer application questions online… 𝐏𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝟏𝟎 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 1. Are you able to relocate? 2. What are your salary expectations? 3. Do you have any criminal convictions? 4. Are you willing to travel [X] percent as required? 5. What is your highest level of education completed? 6. Are you willing to undergo a background check/drug test? 7. Are you legally authorized to work in the country/location? 8. How many years of experience do you have in this role/field? 9. Have you been involved in any at-fault accidents within the past 3-5 years? 10. Have you had any moving violations (e.g. speeding tickets, reckless driving) within the past 3 years? These knockout questions are designed to quickly eliminate candidates who DO NOT meet the minimum requirements for the role. Thus, saving time and resources during the screening process. Employers use these questions to filter out unqualified applicants before moving to the next stage of the hiring process. Pro Tip: Your resume is a tool get in front of the manager. <><><><><><><><><> Don’t miss out on a Med Rep Job opportunity!

I was on a team once that hired a "backup candidate." They got denied for the role and then a few days later got hired. Here's how: It was a pretty competitive finance role and there were a ton of good applicants. Good pay, good company, solid benefits, room for growth. The whole sha-bang. Well, we identified two top candidates, did full rounds of interviews, assessed thoroughly and went with one candidate over the other. However, the top candidate got a huuuge counteroffer from their current employer and couldn't turn it down. It was a bummer, but hey, good for them. So, we turned to the *other* candidate and called to explain the whole situation. No games or "corporate speak," we were just transparent and still said we were excited about hiring them. Here's the kicker: They said yes and it was BECAUSE OF THEIR EXPERIENCE AS A CANDIDATE! Music to our ears 🎵 Does treating candidates well and valuing their experience matter? Yes. It matters a lot. And it can often be the difference when making your next great hire.
