The bluefin is always a point of reference (along with the Megamouth at Boola Bardip of course) of a great and successful glycerol mount

The 4-metre-long blue marlin specimen on display at the Museum is certainly one of a kind! These magnificent fish are typically found on the other side of the Atlantic, but when this specimen was beached in Wales in 2016, Museum scientists knew they had to act quickly to preserve it! Preserving this marine marvel in glycerol for both our scientists to study and our visitors to enjoy has helped us learn more about how these enormous fish live.

  • A complete image of the blue marlin, suspended in a wonder bay in Hintze Hall at the Natural History Museum. It is a large fish with a sword-like nose and open mouth. It has a large dorsel fin and tail and is suspended in glycerol.
