Throwback to last winter at Harvard University where I attended Prof. Michael Sandel’s lecture. I’m very happy to be able to answer questions and discuss the philosophical issues in his class. Thank him for listening to everyone's diverse voices with equal respect for decades. It is very rare that I can encounter a philosopher who thinks and resonates with me so much. If I’m fortunate enough, I wonder if I could be his student. Make a wish first ♥️ Having read his books on #justice, #markets, #democracy, and #meritocracy, I have long contemplated issues of power and democracy, class and #equality, as well as elites and the masses within the framework of political philosophy. I was deeply moved when I heard Prof. Michael Sandel say face-to-face, "…Because #philosophy inhabits the #city, down to earth, rather than dwelling in heaven." That makes two of us. Realism is not the opposite of idealism but rather the realization of strong idealism. "Master, I am willing to become a mighty sword, to put your wisdom and teachings into practice, to realize your vision for good." “老师,我愿化身七尺龙泉,将您的真知教义付诸现实。” In my letter to him, I wrote, "My current situation feels akin to a 'value game among the gods', akin to the debates between #Socrates and Callicles: Initially, I chose philosophy purely, and now my perspective and engagement extend to the real politics." Engaging in the study of #PoliticalPhilosophy requires a delicate balance between profound theoretical insight and a robust sense of pragmatism. This equilibrium is crucial. A profound theoretical sensibility provides the tools for speculative thinking and deconstructing reality, while a sound sense of pragmatism enables theories to address practical challenges effectively. Will I ever experience my moment of "a lifetime of learning, all for this"? Just as Socrates descended (kateben) to the port of Piraeus.
