CIE CEO Kevin Mayne spoke today at the POLIS Network Cycling Declaration breakfast, alongside POLIS Secretary General Karen Vancluysen and European Cyclists' Federation CEO Jill Warren. The panel praised the #EUCyclingDeclaration as a pivotal policy document for the cycling community and covered several highlights:  📈 Recognition of the cycling industry's potential to contribute to economic growth 🤝 Building capacity and structures to support Europe’s growing cycling economy 🌐 The significance of collecting and using data to benchmark mobility policies and ridership 🚴♂️ The importance of developing multi-modal solutions focused on sustainable transport 🏡 Exploring new solutions for bike sharing in suburban areas   CIE’s expert groups have been pivotal to identify, discuss and promote policy solutions that enable cycling like the ones covered during today’s event. If you want to share your views and learn from peers across the industry, contribute to better cycling policies and collaborate on projects for the collective good of the industry, our door is open! In the meantime, we will strive to make sure that the #EUCyclingDeclaration delivers the positive change for the cycling industry and ridership it promises. 

Let's keep pushing forward with integrating cycling practices, infrastructure, and policies in cities worldwide. It's crucial to recognise that various societal groups have different perceptions of cycling. Our backgrounds and personal experiences influence our affiliation, knowledge, and skills related to cycling. Happy bike day! One thing I miss greatly from living in Sweden is the walking and cycling infrastructure in cities. When I lived in Umeå in northern Sweden, I rarely needed car or other transport to get me to work or downtown. Biking was the most convenient and often the fastest way of transport thanks to the great and safe infrastructure for biking. Living in around the same city-size in Slovakia, I can say that biking in cities is very difficult, inconvenient, and often very hazardous. No such infrastructure was planned back in the past and it´s very difficult to make safe and convenient cycling paths within the current infrastructure. In addition, and sadly, it seems that large part of the society cannot see the downs of the current state and the benefits of a better, and more sustainable, cycling infrastructure. I hope the paradigm will shift one day, the sooner the better 🚲 #bike #mobility #cycling #WorldCycleDay #sustainable

It recognises cycling as one of the most sustainable, accessible and inclusive, low-cost and healthy forms of transport and recreation. Today, the EU took a major step forward in promoting the most inclusive, affordable, and sustainable mode of transport: all Member States and EU institutions have signed the European Declaration on Cycling, the first inter-institutional cycling policy at the European level. It sets out 36 strong commitments such as creating safe and coherent cycling networks in cities, improving links with public transport, and providing secure cycle parking spaces and access to recharging points for eBikes. Look forward to seeing the commitments flow down to national level in Ireland throughout our regions, cities and towns and continuing our role delivering on some of these commitments already. #wearearup #cycling #cities #sustainabletransport

A step (or pedal) in the right direction!!

🚲 A historic milestone for cycling occurred a few days ago; European Institutions officially adopted a joint European Declaration on Cycling. The Interreg IPA Programme "Greece -North Macedonia" co-funded in 2014-2020 period, a theme-related project , Bike Cities, with a total budget exceeding 700 thousand euros. 💰 The project partners, two major Municipalities (Serres and Strumica), the Lifelong learning Center of Region of Central Macedonia and the Organisation Promo Idea - Strumica were motivated to take action in the field of Cycle Tourism. Among others, the Bike Cities project included: - Creation of a Bike Park and Information Center - Velo Park. - Development of a Mountain Bike Racing Track according to the regulations of the International Cycling Union (UCI). - Mapping of cycling trails and their connection to tourist destinations, as well as placement of signs with informational maps regarding the difficulty level, altitude, distance, and points of interest of the proposed routes in both mountain and urban areas. - Organization of an International Cycling Race - Development of an electronic platform and smart applications for cycling routes. 👉Find more about the project at https://bikecnet.eu/en/ #Cycling #BikeCities #InterregIPA #EuropeanUnion #CycleTourism 🚵♂️
