⭐ Spotlight on Success: Samantha Blackstone, San Marcos Manufacturing Graduate. Samantha, who graduated from our San Marcos CPT class in September of 2023, is a true example of turning your life around for the better. For a while, Samantha was experiencing homelessness and became justice-involved. However, Samantha shared she "has turned a bad situation into a good one". In the past year, Samantha has accomplished many of the goals she set for herself, including securing housing for her family, saving money to buy her own vehicle and recently completing her GED program! (See her grad photos below). Samantha is now employed with Caldwell Manufacturing in a CNC milling position making $18/hour. Samantha said, “I really like it, and I’m using everything I learned in class. I definitely wouldn’t have liked the job if I hadn’t gone to school at Skillpoint, because I am being challenged to do things that I learned in class.” If you're in a similar situation, head to our website to learn more about the programs we offer: https://brnw.ch/21wKPa6 #successstory #careertraining #workforcedevelopment #inspiration #motivation #CPT #CNC #womeninmanufacturing

When you say where you went to school, you should say it with great pride." This was one of nine principles for personal fulfillment and success that David Rubenstein laid out for Kogod's 2024 spring graduates. TODAY, five wonderful alumni from the Class of 2023—Zenan, Bohan, Tania, Yvette, and Fearghas—will be visiting Balwyn High School to talk to Year 11 and Year 12 students re their best advice for thriving in VCE. Alumni engagement plays a pivotal role in supporting Year 11 and Year 12 students as they navigate the challenges of VCE. The benefits alumni bring to Balwyn High School's current students are countless! Today our students will reap these benefits: WISDOM FROM EXPERIENCE. When alumni return to share their insights, they bring a wealth of experience. Having successfully completed VCE themselves, they understand the rigors, stress, and demands of senior years. Their firsthand knowledge allows them to offer practical advice on time management, study techniques, and stress reduction. REAL-LIFE STRATEGIES. Alumni can provide specific strategies that worked for them during VCE. Whether it’s effective note-taking, exam preparation, or maintaining a healthy work-life balance, their tips resonate with current students. These practical approaches go beyond textbooks and connect classroom learning to real-life challenges. MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION. Hearing success stories from alumni can ignite motivation. Students see tangible evidence that hard work pays off. Alumni share their journeys, setbacks, and triumphs, reinforcing the idea that perseverance leads to achievement. Strengthening Pathways and Exit Credential Transcript – Successful Futures Over many years and countless conversations and meetings with tertiary education providers and industry leaders, it became evident that employers were looking for more than just a strong academic record from prospective employees. Time and time again, high level attendance, Duke of Edinburgh award recipients, demonstrated leadership, public speaking, involvement in charity/voluntary work, Gazelle Project Management skills, participation in sport, cultural engagement, part-time employment, mentoring and coaching others and engagement in activities outside of school were all very highly valued. These requirements became known at Plumpton High School as Exit Credentials. To this end, the leadership team at Plumpton High School set about putting in place our Strengthening Pathways Framework and opportunity after opportunity for all of our students to select how they could contribute to not only their own development but to the growth and improvement of our school and our broader community/society. Out of this was born, the Exit Credential Transcript, an annual and official document presented to every student from Year 7 to Year 12 outlining their efforts and contributions within the Strengthening Pathways Framework. The Exit Credential Transcript is a record, that is tracked out of the Futures Centre, and gives every student the opportunity to create their personal brand. What is included in an Exit Credential is entirely within the power of the individual to customise to their strengths and interests. By the completion of Year 12, every student will have 6 Exit Credential Transcripts to present to prospective employees, to use in scholarship applications and to include in University entry processes. To date in 2024, we have recorded 1200 separate entries of student accomplishment and contributions. We are so invested in your FUTURE. What a great place to be! What will you do next toward your Exit Credential Transcript? Thank you to Gemma Avon, Priyanka Karan and Carolyn Langham in our Futures Centre for the incredible work they have undertaken in bringing our incredible framework to life that is securing our students bright and successful futures.
