Actively seeking Full-Time Opportunities | University of Maryland Graduate | Masters in Robotics | ROS | Computer Vision | Deep Learning
Reflecting on my journey through the ARIAC(Agile Robotics for Industrial Automation Competition) 2023 has been nothing short of incredible. Collaborating with my teammates, Vishaal Kanna Sivakumar, Abhinav Garg, Nishant Pandey, and Saketh Narayan Banagiri, has been a privilege. I owe immense gratitude to Professor Zeid Kootbally for this amazing opportunity. Competition Overview ARIAC pushes the boundaries of industrial automation, challenging participants to develop autonomous robotic solutions. Using ROS2 and Gazebo, we interacted with a simulated factory setup, tackling tasks like kitting, assembly, and the combined task. Agility Challenges Faulty Parts Challenge: Post-kitting, we checked parts for faults by calling a service, replacing them as needed to maintain quality and reliability in assembly processes. High-priority Orders Challenge: As soon as this order was received the floor UR10e robot was stopped from working on the current task and moved on to the high priority task and returned to the incomplete task afterwards. Prioritization strategies ensured timely completion of high-priority orders. Insufficient Parts Challenge: We had conditions set up to replace the parts that were insufficient with a parts with the same type and different color if available on the bins or conveyor belt else the order was completed without it and submitted. Strategic resource management optimized efficiency in the face of shortages. Flipped Parts Challenge: This made use of both out Gantry and Floor Manipulators to complete the task and hence our system adeptly corrected flipped parts. Order Parsing and Processing Orders were received and stored in vectors based on their priority, with our Main node processing them efficiently to ensure sufficiency of parts and optimal task completion. Sensors and Cameras Our setup included a fusion of 5 logical and RGBD cameras on top of the bins and the start of the conveyor belt for part color detection and localization. Two perception pipelines, incorporating HSV masking and experimentation with Deep Learning-based approaches for part classification, facilitated accurate part detection and localization. Also one key highlight of the competition was our dynamic pick and place Algorithm. This innovative approach on the conveyor belt helped the floor UR10e robot to efficiently track part movements with considerations of time required for it to complete its current task, optimizing pick and place tasks on the conveyor belt without additional sensor requirements like break beam. Creative Senior Manager for Deployments & Customer Care | Expert in Robotics Deployment & IT Customer Service | Proven Experience in Education, Corporate, Healthcare, & Food Service Sectors
Robotics companies, please accept a little advice from someone in the trenches: It doesn't matter how groundbreaking your software is. It doesn't matter how impressive your hardware is. If the end user isn't excited by or invested in the product, it will fail. If they're not excited about it, they won't care about it. If they don't care about it, they won't maintain it. If they don't maintain it, they can't use it. If they don't use it, there's no ROI If there's no ROI, the rollout is a failure. Be excited about the product, even if it's the 100th time you've deployed it. It's the first time this user has seen it. Robots are cool! It's okay to be excited!
