The 99 Hudson skyscraper has been towering above Jersey City since 2020. With a height of 274 metres, the skyscraper is not only an eye-catcher, it’s also a technical masterpiece. What makes 99 Hudson so special is its combination of innovative facade technology and the use of around 110,00 fischer FZP II undercut anchors. To be able to withstand extreme wind loads, the heavy natural stone cladding made of Jura limestone was fastened with special undercut technology. In addition to a functional aspect, 99 Hudson Street also offers 781 residential units that appeal to commuters while elevating Jersey City’s skyline to another level. Its location on the western side of the Hudson River provides an unparalleled panoramic view of Manhattan’s skyline. A term I like to use is context. What is the character of the neighborhood. It is however, important to understand that in urban environments, one of the elements of a stimulating environment is the juxtaposition of modern and classical, strong yet simple form coupled with classical architectural ornament. In college one of the first assignments I had as to create variety within order. This sums up what a great urban environment should be.
✨Why beauty matters in the urban environment. Hereford Square, London. The before image is a five-story residential building that was built in 1958 on a bomb-damaged site on Hereford Square in London. In 2007, the building received a Grade II listing, but a procedural error and a private appeal led to its delisting in 2008. A developer subsequently bought the building and tore it down, rebuilding in its place the three stucco-fronted townhouses that had previously occupied the site and been lost to bombs in World War II. The replacement townhouses have significantly more visual appeal than the building they replaced, and are much in keeping with the architectural character and heritage of the area. If asked which one they preferred visually, the vast majority of people would no doubt choose the rebuilt townhouses over their predecessor. What do you think?

Unique Thinking and Ideas to Improve the Future of Rail, Urbanism, and So Much More! Open to Work and Connect!
This car-parking building on Hereford street with a Timezone arcade in the ground floor has actually became a bit of a meme online. It's right in central Christchurch, less than a block from Cathedral Square and on the backside of Cashel street. It's a basically a big concrete wall, set about 20 meters back from the road. The carparking building is somewhat a part of the BNZ Centre, as well as Oxford Terrace. When I first saw it around when it opened last year, I was somewhat bemused and disappointed that building looking like this will be allowed in the central city (let alone another parking building). However, since then I've seen a few photos of this building a numerous social media sites/posts, often with little context besides something like "look at this big strange ugly concrete building". Even seen foreigners repost photos of it and talk about it. It goes to show this is not a regular building. Often dubbed the "brutalist arcade" Walked past it again yesterday, and nothing much has changed. Anyone know if there are any plans for it/the site in front of it which is currently a bare patch of grass? Also, what are people's thoughts on it? #christchurch #newzealand #architecture #urbanplanning #nz

Bruce Carnegie-Brown, chairman of Lloyd’s of London, has objected to the redevelopment of the former Aviva building near Leadenhall Market into a 73-story skyscraper, known as 1 Undershaft. He argues it would eliminate an important public space. The skyscraper, designed by Eric Parry, would be nearly as tall as The Shard and include an 11th-floor public garden. Some architects also oppose the new design, preferring the existing modernist structure. A vote on the project is scheduled for later today【CityAM】 What do we all think? Do we want to put this up there? https://lnkd.in/etM42Sbz

How do you add value? You have to execute.
We’ve expanded our Abbey Square property by constructing two new apartments in unused basement space. Not an easy process with zoning, design, construction, and inspections but the result is beautiful and adds considerable value to the property.

Stonehenge, St Pancras…the Ringway? Ahead of the crucial vote this week by Birmingham City Council’s Planning Committee, Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud has backed our campaign to save the Smallbrook Ringway Centre - a landmark mid-century modern building, currently threatened with total demolition. In a recorded video message to councillors, McCloud invokes Stonehenge, New York’s Grand Central Station, and London’s St Pancras Station, as now celebrated landmarks that at various points in their history, were also undervalued or faced the threat of destruction. Describing the Ringway as ‘a ribbon of craftsmanship, [and] of 1960s optimism’, he calls for the building to be imaginatively reinvented. The Ringway Centre was designed by James Roberts between 1958-60 - the same architect behind the city’s celebrated Rotunda tower - and has been described by historians as ‘the best piece of mid-20th century urban design in Birmingham’. Known for its dramatic 230m long elevation that curves along Smallbrook Queensway, and sweeps over Hurst Street on great V-shaped pilotti, it is thought to be the longest single retail frontage in the country. The planned redevelopment would see the building levelled to make way for three residential towers between 44 and 56 storeys. Of the 1,800 residential units, only 4.4% of would classify as affordable housing – well below the councils own 35% target for developments of this scale. Meanwhile the scheme would have a devastating carbon cost of 187 million kg of CO₂ - equivalent to driving a family car around the earth 33,000 time. This horizontal skyscraper, straight from the Mad Men era, deserves better than the bulldozer. With a little imagination, it's ready to be renewed and revitalised, fit for the 21st Century. Flipping Houses in Boston: Challenges in Boston🏡⬇️ While the profit potential is promising, house flipping in Boston comes with its set of challenges. The city's real estate market is known for its competitiveness, making it essential to ensure that your projected profit margin justifies your investment. This is particularly pertinent in a bustling city like Boston, where desirable neighborhoods command high prices. Another aspect that makes house flipping in Boston distinctive is the city's historic architecture. While these buildings hold immense charm, they can also pose challenges during renovations. Striking a balance between modernizing a property and adhering to historic preservation regulations requires careful navigation. #bostonrealestate #bostonhomes #bostonluxuryhomes #homesellinginnewton #sellingnewton #newtonma #newtonrealtor #newtonhomes #brooklinerealestate #newtonrealestate #newtonluxuryhomes #brooklinehomes #brooklineluxuryhomes
