I've always been passionate about cookbooks 📚- it’s my own personal Roman Empire. 🏛️ So when a planned retreat this weekend turned into additional recovery time for bronchitus, I decided to dive deep into cataloging and tracking my collection. Imagine my surprise when I discovered I own not 400-500, but 613 (mostly vintage) cookbooks! 🤯 Cataloging them was a labor of love. 🫶🏼 It's holding a piece of history in my hands. From 1834 to today, every single one of these cookbooks tell a story of evolving tastes, societal changes, and the enduring power of food to connect us. Some examples include rare early editions, wartime rationing recipes, and heartwarming community cookbooks. After feeding the results into AI, I’ve discovered my 40 years amassing this collection has resulted in a goldmine for research, culinary exploration, and preserving food heritage for almost two centuries. Making the most of every situation is a lifelong habit. This unexpected downtime turned into an incredible journey through time. I feel a profound sense of accomplishment and can’t wait to continue collecting. Here’s to preserving and sharing these treasures for generations to come! 📚✨ Pictured below: A glimpse into my collection, including a rare early 1800s cookbook and a snapshot of the cataloging process #cookbooks #culinaryhistory #foodhistory #passionproject #unexpectedjourney #historybuff #bookworm

On World Book Day (UNESCO), I would like to recommend some of my favorite books related to food: 1- "Good to eat", by Marvin Harris, an insightful and very readable anthropological study about why we eat what we eat and how culture influences our decisions. Highly recommendable! 2- "On Food & Cooking", by Harold McGee, an encyclopedia of kitchen science, history and culture. This one is a must for professionals. 3- "Hungry", by Eve Turow-Paul, a recently published and very enjoyable book about the current trends and what Millenials and GenZers are hungry about. #food #foodtech #foodscienceandtechnology #books #worldbookday #foodies
