* Four-day working week - Yay or Nay? Amidst ongoing global conversations surrounding work-life equilibrium, the concept of a four-day workweek remains at the forefront of discussion, capturing the imagination of employers and employees alike. Recent research has shed light on the transformative potential of this paradigm shift, with findings from the world's largest-ever trial on a four-day working week offering compelling insights. Notably, a significant number of UK companies have eagerly embraced this progressive approach, with an impressive 89% opting to retain the policy beyond the trial period. CEOs and project managers, in particular, have lauded its positive impact, citing enhancements across various facets of organizational dynamics. The study's revelations are striking: a resounding 82% of participants reported experiencing a notable improvement in staff wellbeing, while 50% observed a tangible reduction in staff turnover. Moreover, 32% noted a marked enhancement in job recruitment processes, underscoring the allure of this innovative work structure. Equally compelling is the reported surge in productivity, with nearly half (46%) of respondents affirming a notable uptick in work efficiency. Regionally, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has emerged as a pioneering force in redefining conventional work models. Noteworthy initiatives, such as the recent announcement of a four-day workweek for federal government employees, underscore the nation's commitment to fostering employee satisfaction and productivity. Furthermore, tech giant e&, as the UAE's first tech company to pilot a four-day workweek, exemplifies the innovative spirit driving organizational evolution in the region. As we navigate this transformative landscape, characterized by evolving workplace dynamics and a heightened emphasis on employee well-being, it's evident that the four-day workweek represents more than just a novel concept—it embodies a progressive shift towards fostering a healthier, more sustainable approach to work. #WorkLifeBalance #FutureOfWork #EmployeeWellbeing #FlexibleWorking [Article Source: The Guardian] https://lnkd.in/dBUYU9K5

Last week, a politician launched a plea for a four-day workweek. What ensued was a loud, emotional rebuke. Dogmatic, emotional, and irrational comments were rife. University of Cambridge to the rescue. Their four-day workweek experiment was carried out at 61 companies in the UK. Before the trial, many questioned whether there would be an increase in productivity to offset the reduction in working time – but that is exactly what they found. Many employees were very keen to find efficiency gains themselves. Workers were much less inclined to kill time and actively sought out technologies that improved their productivity. Interviews documented how companies reduced working hours without compromising on targets. Common methods included: 👉 shorter meetings with clearer agendas 👉 introduction of interruption-free ‘focus periods’ 👉 reforming email etiquette to reduce long chains and inbox churn 👉 new analyses of production processes 👉 end-of-day task lists for effective handovers or next-day head starts Benefits of the four-day workweek, you ask? Researchers found a 65% reduction in sick days, and a 57% fall in the number of staff leaving participating companies, compared to the same period the previous year. The companies also found they were seen as more attractive when hiring people. Can anyone be against easier hiring and better retention? The findings suggest that a four-day week significantly reduces stress and illness in the workforce, and helps with worker retention. Some 71% of employees self-reported lower levels of burnout and 39% said they were less stressed, compared to the start of the trial. Oh, for those merely focused on numbers: company revenue barely changed during the trial period – even increasing marginally by 1.4% on average for the 23 organizations able to provide data. 👉👉 This four-day workweek proposal deserves better than a dogmatic, emotional, and irrational rebuke as it offers a realistic solution to the burnout pandemic hurting our economy, and it considerably improves the well-being level of workers => enhancing productivity and efficiency as a result. 🙏🏻 credits to Jurgen Goesaert #wellbeing #fourdayworkweek #humanresources #economy

It is good to hear that the six-month trial of the 4-day working week went well for the majority of businesses that took part. As a business, we are nearing the half-way point of our own trial of a 9-day fortnight. We will be reviewing things together as a team at the half-way point. My feedback will be positive! As a single parent, the extra time is golden and do feel it gives an extra layer to happiness and contentment at work. "In 2022, 61 UK-based organisations participated in a six-month trial of the four-day work week. A year on from the end of the trial, 89% of the original participants still operate the policy, with 51% reporting they have made the four-day week permanent. A follow-up survey, which 28 of the organisations agreed to participate in, found that 100% of managers and CEOs said the four-day week had a positive or very positive impact on their employees. Of those surveyed, 82% reported a positive impact on staff wellbeing; 50% said it reduced staff turnover and 32% said that it improved recruitment." #9dayfortnight #4dayworkweek #flexibleworking #futureofwork https://lnkd.in/eF73rigf

While the four-day workweek campaign is showing promise in the UK, companies in the US don't think so. A new report shows that only 5% of US employers are offering four-day workweeks, and the main reason is a lack of interest from upper management. Conversations about the four-day work week often neglect one key aspect of the discussion: why does working cause despair for so many? Perhaps it's time to also rethink what we want from our jobs, writes Dr Libby Sander PhD. If you take a page from Tim Ferriss' multi-million The New York Times bestseller, The 4-Hour Work Week, rather than waiting for our work schedules to allow us to live our lives, we should start making changes now. #fourdayworkweek #fourhourworkweek
