I believe this 100% and have seen it in my life! One major example: I often give of myself (some say too much) like undercharging or not charging at all for my photography services. I just used to love capturing newborns and those first few days- money would have been nice, but I didn’t do it for the money, it’s because I loved doing it. Fast forward maybe a year or so after I had given away much of my time- my children’s iPads were accidentally left on the hood of our car (not my fault). We heard a thud while driving on a semi-major road near me but didn’t figure it out until later. We drove back and couldn’t locate them (they were in a case). My husband had them set up with a screen saver- if found, call this phone number (his cell). The very next morning we got a phone call “I think we have something important of yours…” By some miracle the iPads were unharmed. Some nice person called to return them, and wouldn’t accept any cash as a reward, told my husband to just “pay it forward”. Little did they know I already had been. Forget about the $600 dollars it would have cost to replace them, their apps with their game progress & pictures were priceless and irreplaceable. My apologies this was long-winded, but it’s only 1 example.

The Sicilian version is: "Fai del bene e scordatelo, fai del male e pensaci". Literally it's do good and forget about it, but reflect over everything done that is bad. It means doing good should be a natural, unremarkable state, but doing bad should lead to the scrutiny of conscience.

This is a great point. Sometimes we think it will come back to us with worldly things like status or money...but at the end of the day, we can reflect and have peace in our souls that we did the right thing whether anybody else knows it or not. Eventually though, consistent consideration of others and doing the right thing...and people do seem to notice even if it takes a while. I'm certainly not perfect and make mistakes and I'm sorry for them. I just like to say that sometimes we get blessings in ways the world doesn't always count and that can be the "unexpected ways" but sometimes it is the way the world counts.

I agree with this in so many ways! I would like to see people give to people without expecting anything in return. Just imagine what great things may come from that. Okay folks, let's all do this together this Christmas Season! Can you im

Even if it doesn’t, that shouldn’t be the motivation.

Just do good for goods sake. Don’t even think or consider it coming back your way.

Just be kind. It really isn’t hard.

...or not. But why does it matter. If one can propagate good, one should do so irrespective of the "return on investment".

Do good to others with no expectation of it coming back to you. Be a nice human. :)
