Yesterday at AltoVita: Smart, safe, sustainable summit, a masterclass on AltoInsights and how Thrust Carbon and sustainability data is used within the platform ✅ The challenges raised around what data is requested and how it is used include: 1. There’s demand from corporates to forecast the carbon emissions of a trip. There are elements of this that can be tracked to make sure corporates don’t go over their carbon targets (travel, shipment, accommodation), however for showing the impact of decision making currently, data can only be pulled from actual bookings. The lowest logical emissions aren’t yet tracked to show a comparison. Historical analysis can provide the most accurate current understanding of the impact of choices and can be used to forecast, but real time impact analysis is where we want to be ✈️🌃 2. There is a lack of knowledge around carbon emissions and what’s good or bad for accommodation. The main factors taken into account include location, number of bedrooms, accreditation. Square footage of units and on-property initiatives eg. Recycling, water/energy management will eventually be included in overall CO2 measurement. Short-term support such as context on average CO2 emissions ie. above or under will help to inform decisions. The key role of sustainability in a world that will never stop generating challenges is highlighted in the speech of Panayiotis (Panos) Kapetanakos, CEO of Noval Property at the 7th Sustainability Summit for SE Europe and the Mediterranean organized by Economist Impact SE Europe Events. Participating in a very stimulating discussion, titled “Creating a more sustainable and resilient future for smart cities in the region”, alongside Haris Doukas, mayor-elect, City of Athens, Hugh Coughlan, vice-president, Association of Cities and Regions (ACR+), Dublin City Council and Lena Belsi, president, Federation of Recycling and Energy Recovery Industries and Enterprises (SEPAN ) and moderated by John Andrews, consultant editor, The Economist,  Mr. Kapetanakos, talked about the philosophy underlying the investment strategy of the company and noted: “It is true that people discuss sustainability at length, but one needs to be mindful to the extent that sustainability is being integrated into how companies invest and do business. International investors have realized this, and it is evident by the fact that their focus has shifted into seeking companies with clear and proven sustainability characteristics to invest in, because they recognize that this strategy provides resilience against market changes. Sustainability is and will continue to be the only reliable compass in a world that will never stop creating challenges. 🔍 The latest IQ Magazine article covers how arenas are becoming more sustainable, focusing on energy efficiency and eco-friendly innovations. Our CEO, Claire O'Neill, discussed the key challenges on the journey to zero-impact arena shows, stating: “Many buildings are quite old and need development or investment in order to make them less energy hungry. We’ve been doing energy audits with many arenas, and we’ve discovered that much of the investment into energy efficiency can be made back in savings within anything from six months to three years, depending on the level of improvements.
