Totally shocked to see big layoffs at intuit and what is more devastating is- they publicly calling out 1k+ low performers. Am very sure, not even half of them would have got a poor rating earlier. In case you are impacted - 1. Please take some time off. This is not the end in any way. Spend time with your friends/ family, go for some vacation or even shout out loud if it helps. 2. 🚨 Intuit Layoffs: A Shocking Display of Corporate Callousness 😡 I couldn't believe my eyes when I read about Intuit's recent layoffs. 1,800 employees, 10% of their workforce, gone in an instant. 💔 But the real kicker? 1050 were coldly labeled as "underperformers." Since when did it become okay to not only upend people's lives but also slap them with a demoralizing label on their way out? The lack of empathy and transparency is astounding. Intuit (maker of Turbo Tax): We’re laying off 1,800 people. Also Intuit: We’re hiring 1,800 people who know AI. It gets worse… 1,000 of these layoffs are reportedly due to performance issues. CEO Sasan Goodarzi claims: “We do not do layoffs to cut costs.” Why label departing employees in this way? Seems disrespectful and reflects poorly on management. It's bad for morale. Also hurts company reputation. Intuit royally screwed up in the name of innovation. In making their announcement about 1,800 layoffs forthcoming, in the same breath said this… “With the strength of our people, culture, and mission, we are positioned to take advantage of this AI revolution and revolutionize our customers’ experiences to deliver undisputed benefits in ways that we could never imagine. Today is ‘Day 1. Together, we will focus on the future and all the possibilities to power prosperity around the world.” You can’t layoff 1,800 people and then say with the “strength of your people”. This is hypocritical and again underscores a lack of prioritization of people as your greatest asset. News flash Intuit… if you can’t comment on whether or not people were given a fair opportunity to turn around their poor performance then what do you expect us to believe about how you handled this? You’ve just proven the “strength of your people” is not your priority. You did this in the name corporate gain and greed. 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗻, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝘀. Most layoffs are tone-deaf, even in the smallest companies. We instantly forget to treat our people like colleagues. Downsizing is a harsh reality. When a company needs to change direction or preserve cash, plenty of hard decisions need to be made. So, treat the delivery of these hard decisions with the same respect you gave the actual decision. But people go into fraidy cat HR mode. Instead of treating employees with empathy and building a plan for a smooth transition, we use these ham-handed emails and proclamations that just show how we can all be artless and heartless.

Intuit had a big layoff last week: 1,800, which is 10% of its workforce. Alas, that in and of itself isn’t news—lots of tech companies have made cuts over the last 18 months. But in her letter to employees, they labeled a significant portion of those cut as under performers. Here’s the quote from the CEO: “We’ve significantly raised the bar on our expectations of employee performance, resulting in approximately 1,050 employees leaving the company who are not meeting expectations and who we believe will be more successful outside of Intuit.” Yikes. I mean, I’m all for standards and transparency, but something about this doesn’t sit right. First of all, you just tarred ALL of those laid off with the suggestion that they weren’t doing their jobs. That’s going to make it harder for them to get their next gig (including the 750 who were cut for other reasons.) Second…you had 1,000+ employees who weren’t meeting expectations?! That seems like an admission of a colossal failure of leadership, management, and culture. How did you let it get that bad? Hope the managers that supervised those “under performers” fired themselves, too. Layoffs suck. Pooping on those who lost their job on their way out seems especially cruel. Loading them up with NDAs so they don’t lose their severance and not allowing them to defend themselves? Extra crummy.
