Executive Vice President Planning & Development, Los Angeles Dodgers Chair and Founder, Canopy Team

Larry Lucchino has so many successes, in Baltimore, San Diego, Boston, Worcester, it will be hard for history to celebrate them all. For the Baltimore Orioles, he had a vision for an urban ballpark, one that fit into downtown, that would harken back to the traits that make baseball fans wax nostalgic about Ebbets Field whether they knew it or not. His constant refrain: “we are all fans” - a reminder that no matter what our job description, our real work was to create a memorable environment, a timeless building, that would allow conversations and emotions to span generations, bridge divides and build a community. Larry loved to quote Yogi Berra “when you come to a fork in the road, take it” — such excellent advice to live by. RIP Larry. I will always be grateful for the opportunity you gave me and for the decades of working for you.

Red Sox fans, urbanists and historic preservationists will remember Larry’s role - and yours too, Janet - in saving and improving Fenway Park. I wonder if there are any neglected lyric little bandboxes in heaven that can keep Larry busy 🤔

Janet. For all the best reasons, I can’t think of Larry without thinking of you. My deepest sympathies.

So sad to hear this news. Larry was such a nice man. My condolences to his family. 💙⚾️

You hit the mark when you said he did his job as a “fan”. If more sports execs took this perspective, the fan experience would be much better. Baseball needs this sort of experience. What a wonderful person to work with.

R.I.P. Larry. You did a great job of making the game of baseball an enjoyable experience for fans here on earth, and now you will get to join all the baseball legends of the past in heaven. I was a young Dodgers fan who first got to experience the game, live in the open, at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. That will always be a memorable experience. 😊 ⚾️ 👍🏽

Larry was the ultimate nice guy. In 1992, the first year of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, on opening day my wife and I were using the overhead walkway into the warehouse on our way to the Designated Hitters Lounge. Larry was standing on the walkway marveling at the crowds below. He said; “This is exactly what I wanted to happen.” Another one of the greats is gone.

We are very lucky to have had Larry Lucchino in Baltimore. Thanks for sharing Janet Marie. That’s a great photo!!

Larry was the catalyst and the real reason for the Red Sox early 2000s success
