A recent #refrigerator purchase gave me a new dilemma - what to do with the wide deli drawer? If you look at refrigerators now, some have a super-wide "deli" drawer that usually has one or two dividers in it and not a lot of flexibility. Adding items to this drawer can be quite annoying - the items lay on top of one another and, over time, get forgotten and pushed into the back, where it is left uneaten. No good! We don't like wasting food in our home, so this drawer needs to be updated. I purchased the containers after determining how many I needed. Here's how to transform a refrigerator drawer like a pro. We open our pantries every day to prepare meals. Not all pantries look pristine and magazine-worthy—I know mine doesn't—but they are useful places to store stuff. As we go along our days, we add more items and find that the clutter gets out of hand. So, now is the time to clear out the pantry. Below, I am sharing 15 things you should consider revisiting and deciding if you still need them. Get rid of these 15 items for a more well-organized pantry Old opened food packages. Do you have chips that were eaten with only a few left? These are the opened partially used food packages we are talking about here. Condiments that have expired. These items include olive oils and bottles of vinegar you may not have looked at in a long time. Empty them out and then recycle the plastic and glass. Old boxes of pasta. If you have old pasta, it may start tasting like cardboard. Yuck! Trash it, and if you can, recycle the paper container. If your recycling center accepts cardboard, you can dump the pasta in the trash and recycle the cardboard part (not the window film) of the box. Nuts you haven’t eaten. Dried beans last a long time; most last at least two years. But if you leave them in their original packaging, they may have a plastic odor. Using containers like glass wide-mouth mason jars helps keep them fresh for longer. Canned items that expired. Canned foods usually last about two years. If you wish to use them after the two-year mark, you may notice that the food tastes metallic. Old breadcrumbs in the original bags. They last no more than six months. I've used them after six months but had to add seasoning. Often the person voicing the complaint does not own the conversational tools to express their need in a healthy or clear way. Reserve judgment & annoyance often lead us to respond with defensiveness or a counter-complaint. Instead, listen for the request beneath the complaint. Look for the need that this person has but is unable to express clearly. Respond to the person with a question to clarify his/her need and help him/her express the need clearly to you (and to himself). Here is a conversation example of what I am talking about. Joe: “I’m always the last to know.” You: Would you appreciate more communication from me? Joe: “Well, sometimes I feel left out of the loop.” You: What can I do to help you feel more in the loop? We love holiday decorations around our home. Finding the best way to organize and #declutter them is another story. When we declutter the house, we forget the attic area since it is so infrequently used. But not this time. We will declutter the holiday decorations to make the space more user-friendly. Follow along to see how I decluttered my holiday decorations. Before attic space. The image below is just part of it. Since the artificial Christmas tree is still up, the bag would be in the area right in front of the gray box. Note: the right side of the attic is where I have Thanksgiving decorations. The first step is to go through all the bins in the attic. Since I had the holiday decorations out this season, I knew exactly what I loved and wanted to use again. It was the perfect time to clear the old unwanted holiday decorations. I was pulling out things, like the old cookie tins, napkin rings, table cloths, and placemats, and recycling them since we no longer bake during the holidays. I went through my napkin rings bag. Some were just not used in YEARS. Here's the before picture. And, here are the kept napkin rings. They are the only wants I wanted to keep. Some of them were broken, which made it easier for me to get rid of them. I got rid of 50% of the napkin rings. Yay! And then, I went through all the placemats. Even the ones inside the house. I updated the ones I had in the dining room with the new ones I didn't use. I also got rid of ones that were just not being used and were stained. Some placemats wouldn't clean up, so I ditched them, too. Get rid of broken holiday decorations. I found several broken home decor candle sticks and trees. I purchased these small galvanized metal buckets years ago for a party I was hosting and found them very useful. However, after I stopped hosting the parties, I didn't know what to do with them. So, I started doing upcycling craft projects with these small buckets. Here's how I upcycled small metal buckets into cute holiday-themed centerpieces. Feel free to check out all three below. The three themes for the Upcycle Small Metal Buckets projects are an Elf-Face, a white poinsettia, and a Snowman Face. All three use the same small metal buckets since I had so many of them. Upcycle Small Metal Bucket into Elf Face Arrangement The first upcycle small metal bucket project featured a cute Elf Face I found at Michaels. Here is how I made it. What supplies did I use to make this elf-face metal bucket? For this Elf-face metal bouquet, below are the supplies I used: 1 metal galvanized small basket Floral Foam Elf face with a stick - I found this at Michaels. Snowflake Ribbon Hot glue gun and glue stick Plastic leaves Fake berries White leaves Faux pinecone Pins How much did it cost to make this elf-face metal bucket? This project cost me about 10 dollars to make. Most of the things I had, but the elf-face was about 4 dollars, and the leaves and other things were used on most of these buckets. How long did it take me to make this elf-face metal bucket? To make this one, it only took me about 30 minutes. It was a super quick project and was a little messy with the floral foam because I had to cut it down to make it fit into my galvanized buckets. How did I make this elf-face metal bucket?
