I’ve listened to the same top 10 repetitions of domestic abuse tropes on a loop in my many hacked feeds for over a decade. Oddly enough a multi-institutional rape culture fixated on fostering resentments and division among its own citizens doesn’t offer much of a defence against anything. However, obsessively dismantling effective approaches to digital defences over those 10+ years does indicate a clear intention to have no meaningful defences. As does bizarrely manufacturing and clinging to the comical pretence that cancelling effective defences is a route to having such defences. 

In my contribution to the EJIL Talk, I analyze the legal and policy ramifications of the recent Podchasov v. Russia judgment by the ECtHR. This landmark case dealt with a law mandating the weakening of end-to-end encryption.

The recent protests in kenya have seen all arms of government strives to protect individual privacy while addressing security concerns. The result is that competing interests take center stage. While the Constitution and the Data Protection Act enshrine privacy rights, the National Intelligence Service Act and the Prevention of Terrorism Act enable necessary surveillance under judicial oversight. It is interesting to observe this balance demands, vigilance and adaptation to the challenges that emerge within the digital spaces.

This criminal indictment is an important reminder that many federal compliance obligations follow federal funds --> including Section 889 Part A's Prohibition on Contracting for Certain Telecommunications and Video Surveillance Services or Equipment --> even when your public sector customer is a state or local entity.
