It was an honour to present our recent work, “Micro vs. Clinical Dosimetry of Alpha-Particle Targeted Radionuclide Therapy: A Comparison of Absorbed Dose and DNA Damage,” at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) 2024 conference in Toronto! Multiple dose calculations were done using TOPAS/GEANT4 Monte Carlo code for Ac-225 (plus other radioniclides) in the micro-scale and different cell models with different cell fractions. We came up with a pipeline to calculate the DNA damage map for cell models. Then we introduced the “Biologic Effective Cell Kernel (BECK)”. A kernel that calculates the DNA damage at the cellular level. I recently had the pleasure of attending a conference, themed: Imaging Modalities: Choose Wisely and Safely. ⚛️Organized by the Egyptian Society of Radiation Safety and Quality and the Egyptian Society of ’Radiology and Nuclear Medicine ‘ESRNM, this enlightening event delved into crucial topics such as: 🚩Referral Guidelines, 🚩Dose Reduction, 🚩Contrast Media in CT & MRI. The sessions were packed with insightful discussions and cutting-edge research presentations that highlighted the importance of safety and precision in imaging techniques. Who could have imagined the ability to diagnose tricuspid regurgitation on a PET/CT? Every day we perform dynamic imaging on our Siemens Biograph Vision Quadra and are blown away by the incidental findings we see that are otherwise inapparent on delayed imaging or CT. For most patients, we image the head and trunk, but for primary lesions, such as sarcoma, we image the lower limbs. With a range of relevant tracers, dynamic "all organ" imaging will open the way for replacing much of what we currently do using dynamic planar nuclear medicine on a gamma camera with quantitative and 3-dimensional anatomically-correlated precision. While invaluable for biodistribution research into novel tracers, our primary motivation for acquiring this scanner, the positive impact it can have on patient care is already manifest.
