HS Ship Visit to Celestyal in Piraeus port, Greece - 9 March 2023 The #purpose of the visit was to pilot-test a technological #application ‘Museotek’, which is an innovative digital platform and application providing remote and real-time museum tours to schoolchildren. The Museotek application is being considered for use by HEALTHY SALING. The project would incorporate the application for external audits conducted against the standards of the European Manual for #Hygiene Standards and Communicable Disease Surveillance on passenger ships, as a way to measure the outcomes and impacts of HEALTHY SAILING interventional studies, while improving compliance with health and hygiene standards. The application is installed on a mobile phone attached to a stabilizing arm, allowing ship personnel to observe certain ship areas using the application, with video viewed live by HEALTHY SAILING experts and company HQ remotely. Serendipity during Iftar. A few days ago, Inge and I sat beside someone with a familiar face. Thirty minutes later, we discovered she participated in the first Hercules Trophy in New York 12 years ago. We still call it "The thunderstorm edition." Remember Koen Blanquart, Kris Talboom, and Inge Van Belle? 🤣 2 hours before the start, our beautiful village on Randall's Island was flooded by a thunderstorm. Even funnier: two gentlemen sitting next to us also recently moved here and also participated! Presenting the latest Road Safety Statistics for Greece on behalf of Hellastron at the 2024 ASECAP - EU ASSOCIATION Road Safety Conference in Madrid, hosted by SEOPAN, Construcción, Agua y Concesiones de Infraestructuras. The implementation of a new Motorway network in Greece, along with educational campaigns on safer driving practices, has led to a significant 60% decrease in road fatalities at national level and 70% on the Greek Motorways in the last 15 years. However there is still a lot to be done. Achieving #30x30 | With 2030 just around the corner, the challenge of meeting 30x30 is becoming increasingly dire. At a Plenary Session covering Effective Management of Marine Protected Areas at the Our Ocean Conference in Athens, Enric Sala (National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence) shared that in order to achieve 30% of protected areas in the next 6 years, we need 200 more giant MPAs (100,000km2 or more) and over 100,000 coastal MPAs (10km2 or less) — in the next 6 years. Based on calculations, this means 40 new MPAs have to be created EVERYDAY. How many new MPAs were created yesterday and how many will be created tomorrow? Moreover, the majority of MPAs today still allow extractive activities, which is why Greece’s recent announcement to ban bottom trawling in marine parks is so significant.
