“...I realised that willingness to help is not enough; we need a common language about accessibility that we all understand and speak. So I decided to do it.” says Balázs Berecz, founder and CEO of Access4you, a wheelchair user himself. By offering businesses a certification mark that certifies the accessibility of their location, Access4you was created to provide reliable and detailed accessibility information about client locations for people with disabilities across 9 stakeholder groups. Find out more about the infamous Lisbon story - the story that set off Access4you’s journey: https://lnkd.in/d-D7nhtZ #TheStory #TheBeginning #AboutUs #Accessibility #DisabilityInclusion #Access4you #A4U [ID: On a black background, there is a blue half-circle shape coming from the upper left corner of the image. In this shape, text reads: "...I realised that willingness to help is not enough; we need a common language about accessibility that we all understand and speak. 🌍 Today marks Global Accessibility Awareness Day! 🌟 On this day, let's reaffirm our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all. Here's how we can make a difference together: 👁️🗨️ Ensuring that meaningful images are accompanied by alternative text descriptions, so the blind can fully engage with content. 👂 Providing captioning for visuals to ensure those who are hearing impaired can access information seamlessly. 🖥️ Offering alternative keyboards, adaptive hardware, and necessary devices for individuals with motor impairments, empowering them to navigate technology with ease. 🧠 Creating a more accessible digital environment by utilizing plain language, uncluttered screens, and consistent navigation for those with cognitive disabilities. Let's work hand in hand to build a world where everyone, regardless of ability, can participate fully and equally. Today, the Canadian Accessibility Network (CAN) invites you to join in celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)! The purpose of GAAD is to promote discussion, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion, as more than one billion people live with visible and invisible disabilities. Everyone should have equal access to information, regardless of ability. That’s why #GAAD2024 emphasizes the importance of creating accessible and inclusive digital experiences and environments. Aligned with the GAAD Foundation, our mission at CAN is to promote system-level changes and cultural shifts in equity, mindsets, and behaviours to advance accessibility for persons with disabilities. Assistive and adaptive technologies can play a big role in making digital spaces more accessible. Some tools include screen readers, speech-to-text, and closed captions. These technologies open the digital space to persons with disabilities and allow them to access virtual content without barriers. To delve deeper into the realm of digital accessibility, explore our previous CAN Connect Forum titled “Increasing Accessibility with Assistive Technology”, where expert panelists discuss assistive and adaptive technologies for the workplace. https://loom.ly/JZKGQeQ

This Thursday 16 May is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). What are you doing to celebrate? One easy thing you can do is a basic accessibility check of your website to make sure it has high contrast text. Black text on a white background (or vice versa) helps people with low vision to read your content. Also, including an Accessibility Statement on your website is a good way to let people know you care about inclusion and will address access issues via regular scheduled maintenance and webpage updates. #bekindbeinclusive #WCAG #digitalaccess #accesibility #inclusion #GAAD https://accessibility.day/
