BAE Systems Hägglunds has unveiled plans for a substantial expansion in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. This initiative aims to enhance the company’s production capabilities to meet the surging demand for advanced military vehicles. The expansion represents a multi-billion SEK investment across several significant projects. A 600 million SEK upgrade is set for the Nordanås test area, which will undergo extensive enhancements to support advanced testing protocols. These upgrades will ensure that Hägglunds’ products adhere to the highest standards of performance and reliability. The highlight of this expansion is a new 11,000 square meter facility in Gullänget. With an investment of 1.1 billion SEK, this state-of-the-art factory and office complex will substantially increase Hägglunds’ production capacity. Scheduled to be operational within two years, this facility will generate new jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region. Additionally, 1.4 billion SEK will be invested in advanced machinery and equipment, crucial for the production of the Stridsfordon 90 (CV90) combat vehicle. Known for its versatility and combat effectiveness, the CV90 is a cornerstone of Hägglunds’ product line and has attracted significant international interest. The decision to expand in Örnsköldsvik is driven by a robust order book and the necessity to scale operations to meet growing global demand. The expansion is poised to have a considerable positive impact on the local economy, creating numerous job opportunities ranging from engineering and technical roles to administrative and support positions. The influx of investment is also expected to boost local businesses and services, further enhancing Örnsköldsvik’s economic landscape. BAE Systems Hägglunds intends to continue investing in advanced technologies and infrastructure to maintain its competitive edge in the defense market. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/dwJUNXZA

The Big Picture: One of the highest priorities for the DoD is to develop hypersonic aircraft. In fact, it’s one of just 14 'critical tech' verticals for the military. To be considered hypersonic, it flies at least Mach 5 (i.e. 5x the speed of sound) or 3,800 mph. The Concorde flew Mach 2...bullets travel Mach 1-2. In 2021, China tested a missile that travels 15,000 mph and Russia is actively using hypersonics in Ukraine. The U.S. has yet to successfully deploy them. Silicon Valley has spent $500M+ funding hypersonic startups to support the DoD and commercial sectors and it’s leading to some amazing breakthroughs in a short period of time. We still have a ways to go… Why It Matters: Having hypersonic capabilities is a huge strategic advantage. They’re 'nearly' impossible to intercept with current air defense technology, so having them will be a primary deterrent for the US. My Take: - I’ve been fascinated by this technology for the past 4 years, ever since I met the co-founders of Venus Aerospace Sarah "Sassie" Duggleby and Andrew Duggleby (referenced in this article). In that time, I’ve seen remarkable progress in our capabilities....but we still have a ways to go. Over the next few years, innovation in hypersonics will have many wider implications across other sectors. The tech to keep an eye on are... 1) Advanced materials: vehicles heat up to 3,600°F at those speeds 2) Communications: plasma forms around the vehicle disrupting comms and targeting 3) Propulsion: combustion to achieve Mach 7-9 is no easy feat As an example, Venus has created the world’s most efficient engine (a ‘rotating detonation engine’), which unlocks a whole host of new opportunities across defense and commercial applications. It's worth YouTubing 'Venus Rotating Detonation Engine' to see their breakthrough. https://lnkd.in/gDbxvGfr

Autonomous military systems? 📡 Anduril Industries raises $1.5B to change defence production forever. Named after a legendary Lord of the Rings sword, Anduril Industries aims to produce "tens of thousands" of autonomous military systems each year. Their goal is to enhance the U.S. and its allies' defence capabilities by making production faster and more scalable. With major backing from investors like Palantir's Peter Thiel, Anduril is setting up a massive factory, Arsenal-1, that spans over five million square feet. This move could parallel Tesla’s revolution in automotive production with its software-focused approach. Autonomous systems are set to be more adaptable, scalable, and, most importantly, affordable. Arsenal will be an adaptable manufacturing model that can meet varied defence needs effectively. Could this be a game-changer for global defence industries? Would you trust autonomous systems in national defence? Hubris, resulting from Human Exceptionalism and lacking insight. Nothing personal against Steve Nouri his content is great, however this just shows the extent of our 'Human Exceptionalism' beliefs. Chihuahua or Muffin? 5 years ago, #Ai could hardly distinguish a Cupcake from a Dog. Just this month, Ai scored a 98% performance on what was not just a meme, but also considered a serious performance test for Computer Vision. #AI is outperforming humans now across the board. The idea that Humans will have to be kept in the loop to Avoid bad decision making by AI is absolutely ludicrously ridiculous. I'll probably be repeating this another 10.000 times over the coming years. Humans will be, within a decade, INFERIOR in every way to #AI capabilities. The only thing we have going for us at the moment, is the fact that we can do all the things AI can do, but we can do them all at once at a reasonable level. This lead WILL NOT HOLD. #AI and #Robotics development Paths are exponential and untethered by biological or evolutionary limitations. We will either MERGE with AI (imagine your phone becoming an implant) or We will be swept away by it as the Apex Species on the planet. I know it's hard to accept for many because it feels so alien, so 'science fiction' so far from our reality, but any other conclusion is based on wishful thinking. Once, 100 years ago, we didn't believe flying was possible, that lasers were real, that nuclear fusion was possible, that black holes existed... Think about it, Smartphones, iPads, Electric Cars, Vertically Landing rockets, and Artificial Intelligence were once the stuff of fringe science fiction writers... Is it really so hard to belief? The science is precise. The trends are clear. Numbers don't lie. I have spoken. -Stay tuned 🤖 Keynotes, Consulting, or Masterclasses 📤 If you want someone who thinks outside of the box.
