#LFG. For 10+ years leading in #residential care, I have been OBSESSED with one thing: how does a company create a unified culture within a 24/7 environment which has so many different types of positions and roles and schedules?? How do we make sure the 2nd Shift PRN Floor staff receives the same communications and feels a part of the same culture that the non direct care team does? How do we break down the "us vs. them" mentality that can exist in these settings with direct care not seeing/feeling the leadership team or feeling like they get to be a part of the company culture? In a growing organization, how do we ensure connectivity across locations, programs, states? I'll be honest, in my career up to this point I hadn't figured it out and it's driven me crazy. Well, New Hope Treatment Centers is trying something innovative to address this issue. Introducing the New Hope Hub! This is a free Employee App for all New Hope Team Members which will serve as an in-house communication platform, culture builder, place for recognition and shout outs, announcements, information (picture a staff-only Instagram meets Teams meets Facebook, meets Survey Monkey, meets etc. etc.). If a 3rd shift staff at New Hope wants to give me some feedback, I'm now just a chat away. If I want to make sure all of our direct care have equal opportunity to RSVP to this summer's Charlotte Knight's games (since they don't sit all day on a computer), they now can do this with a click of a button on their phone. This is going to bridge the divide that inherently exists in these settings and pave the way for greater connectivity and truly lived-out shared mission, vision and values (not just words collecting dust on a piece of paper). If you can't tell, I couldn't be more pumped for this! The big roll out is next week with our goal of our 575 employees all downloading The Hub by the end of the month. As we look to cheer on the Detroit Lions, I couldn't help but think about how "together" the fans were at the end of the last game singing "Lose yourself" by Eminem. It was a contagious sight no matter if you were in the crowd, watching on TV, or seeing a social media video about it. The moment provided a sense of calm and determination for many. Sports like football have been studied for health benefits. We understand physical exercise contributes to a healthy lifestyle, but moreso there is the health benefit of "togetherness". When people have relationships with family, friends, AND community (teachers, doctors, nurses, store clerks, police, librarians, etc.) studies show they live longer, healthy lives. So what can we do beyond football season and playoffs? We can focus on ensuring our lives have MEDS. This isn't the prescription a clinician would give you to diangose and treat a medical condition. It is the ongoing health of life--Meditation, Exercise, Diet, and Sleep. It's not pills, surgeries, and diagnostic tests that help you live a healthy life. Sure they help but it's not the cornerstone of a healthy life. It's the "togetherness" we have to one another (family, friends, and community) and what we learn from one another. Simple and pure. Football is Life. Relationships are everything. Go Lions!
